Popular Post woko
Hello folks, I thought I would start a thread of the build and Work in Progress of these LBSC 6 wheel Billinton coaches in 7mm. All 3d printed besides the wheels and 3 link couplings! You can find the link to the progress on the layout here if anyone is possibly interested, we are aiming for a rough time frame of the 1920's with a bit of artistic license ;) Link to Smithfield layout below should anyone fancy a gander! So for this layout i'm intending on building a set of 6 LBSC Billinton 6 wheeler Coaches for Smithfield, 30ft Brake 3rd, 30ft Third x2 32ft Lav comp, 32ft First, and 30ft Double Ended Full brake. Hopefully I intend to show the progress as I go along, so far its been quite hard going getting solid 3d prints off the printer without the dreaded suction banding issues, so going to take the plunge and split these models up into further smaller components to print to get a better finish as currently I print the body complete! Nothing worse than spending all that time and effort lining these babies to find it ruined by huge diagonal lift lines right across your coach sides!!! I've gone for the all Umber lined livery, mostly because of the era we are planning for the layout, end of the pre-grouping era, plus I think the Umber coaches look quite special with the Gold/Ochre type lining! No doubt this is probably hugely debateable livery, but have based my first coach off the of the Nigel Digby variation in his southern pre-grouping liveries book! Though I have taken some artistic licence and painted the roof grey as it would have weathered down a lot in its service, especially towards the end of these coaches careers! I will potentially weather the roof properly later on once I have done some satisfactory tests to see if I can something more convincing that a quick wash over the top The roof is yet to be fixed, hence its loose currently as I need to finish work on the interiors, adding in the 3rd class seating, i'm assuming this was a dark reddish colour, I know the first class was blue? I also have to add the glazing to the windows! The lining was done using a chris arundell lining pen, along with a set of carefully trialled lining templates I have prepared for the model and printed out to help with lining the model, its ok, but I hope with more practise and confidence I can really sharpen and tidy this up! I also need to get some correct decals for this coach if I can find any kind soul who knows where I might get some? Anyway I shall stop jibber jabbering and post some pictures of the current progress LBSC 30ft third coach 15

woko
Apologies for the duplicate picture but just a quick update on the rake of 7mm Billinton’s 30ft brake third almost finished, needs interior, and roof fixing, and end glazing! 30ft third still needs seats inside, just trying out a few colours for the seats. 32ft first, not quite happy with the print but may line it and see how it looks! 32ft lav comp, same as above 30ft double ducket brake reprinted and ready to start lining. yet to decide the final coach, whether to print another third, or new vehicle plain composite 2nd and first Picture taken at the club on the layout Smithfield’s, backdrop the newly installed resin cast walling! 11 1
woko
Some pictures of the LBSC brake progress! Still have the glazing to put in the back, plus add the seating to the interior, hence the roof is still loose. 7
woko
Update on the progress of the LBSC Billinton coaches for the ESMRC club's exhibition layout! Roofs still loose as I need to check the weight of these coaches going across the points on the layout, so I may need to add some additional weight Some subtle weathering down of the brass, and mansell wheels, and potentially the roofs And finally the decals/transfers to add along with a couple more coaches to complete the six coach rake. 8
woko
A quick update got some pictures at the club last night on the still in progress Smithfields layout thanks to Kevin who took these. Have applied the amazing water slide decals this weekend courtesy of the talented Mr Ian MacCormac thank you for sending those over sir they are excellent as always and really finish off these coaches thank you! Along with finishing off the 2nd Third class coach and brake, I would like to add a PRV, and possibly a 33 and half foot Tri Composite as this will add some nice variation to the rake I hope. 5 4
woko
I know I know more coach pictures apologies but the sun was out and I figured I would get some better detailed shots of them now with the fabulous decals from Ian! Not perfect by a long shot but hopefully as I get to build more and more I will try to push the quality Still have 3 or 4 more to build! I know its gone up since my initial 5 coach train I had planned, but really been enjoying building these and hope to have a more detailed explanation of the process later on if anyone is mildly interested in reading :) 5

You hinted in one of the earlier posts about breaking the prints down into smaller pieces to print... They look fantastic, by the way!
