RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 24, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2023 (edited) Built yesterday afternoon and completed this morning. Great fun. I applied home made decals in place of the original Letraset rub down ESSO decals, replaced the plastic wheels with metal ones and fitted etched metal ladders. Cheers Darius Can anyone pass informed comment as to the authenticity of the generously radiused tank end/ side transition? To my eyes, the prototype rarely, if ever, had such a large radius - though I can see why Peco produced it that way; for ease of tool ejection. CJI. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 24, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2023 I think it’s likely to be the tool ejection reason. I have second tank wagon kit on the bench and this is the tank sprue. The kit instructions mention that you can get a catalogue of all the Wonderful Wagons for 3/- or 3/6d by post, which gives some idea of the age of the mouldings. Steamport Southport
Weren't they recently updated? No idea about how authentic they are as I've only recently got the relevant books and haven't done even basic research on them. But they seem like a good kit to build. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 24, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2023 This is a picture of a restored tank wagon. https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-restored-british-railways-oil-tanker-walker-sons-hanley-staffordshire-26833853.html The tank end radius is much less pronounced than on the model. Cheers Darius I always felt that, by comparison with other model tank wagons, the Peco product didn't quite convince - for the sole reason of the end radius. CJI. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted July 24, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 24, 2023 A little bit of history on W.Walker & Sons. Nice to know that the lubricants plant is still operational in Hanley - albeit owned and run by Fuchs. Cheers Darius

Jason I've done one of the updated kits recently and have another on the to do pile - nice kit - although I think I replaced the supplied wire with some straighter stuff of my own. CJI. Looking at it,I think the lack of rivets on the model is what makes the ends look slightly out compared to the prototype photo
