digger62
HI I've got a Bachmann Next18 decoder (36-567) which I believe is made by Zimo and is the same as their MX618N18 and I was wondering if I could fit a stay alive to it. There appear to be some solder pads along one side, but I can't find any images explaining what they are for. I'm sure they're out there I just can't see them! As always many thanks for any help Mark
jamesed
You shouldn't need to solder directly on to the decoder. Remove the decoder and you should see that you have a row of pins visible down one side of the N18 socket which you can attach wires on. Download a pdf copy of the Zimo MX Small Decoder Manual and in there you'll find a diagram showing what is wired to which pin on the decoder. You need to identify the Positive and Ground pins on the socket to attach your stay alive wires to. Alternatively, trace the wiring for positive and ground to the loco pcb and you might find there are some solder pads on there to wire to. Either way, it avoids waving your soldering iron anywhere near the decoder! 1
RMweb Premium peterm1 Posted January 30, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 30, 2023 If all else fails, Digitrains and probably others sell an adapter board that you solder to from the safety of your work bench.
digger62
Many thanks for the prompt responses. I'll check Jamesed's suggestion and failing that I'll go with Peterm1 and check out Digitrains. Mark
LNERGE
I have an EFE Rail J94 and I can’t remember if it came dcc fitted or not. Is it possible to identify this decoder and can I fit a stay alive?
RMweb Premium peterm1 Posted February 4, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2023 It looks like a Zimo, but if you read CV250 thru 253 and it is a Zimo, that'll give you which one it is.
