SouthernBlue80s
I have just purchased a Heljan class 25 25 252. 25 190 seemed to follow me about in the early 1980s. So I have a soft spot for that one. Now I am not a rivet counter... Can I rename 252 to 190. Did they externally look the same? Or is there a sharp intake of breath, you can't do that, there were all these minor detail differences. Thanks Steve
Gareth 73
A quick Google of images and they seem to be very similar so go for it. And 190 seemed to get very dirty so thats another plus point as far as I'm concerned. Edited December 5, 2022 by Gareth 73 Extra
45125
They are the same in many respects, cab steps, boiler grill plate, turbo cover plate, lamp brackets etc.Just the 190 had unpainted drivers window frame after that cab came from 25189.
andyman7
Interestingly, looking at the excellent DerbySulzers website, it appears that in TOPS blue days, 25 252 had stepped sandboxes whilst 25 190 had smooth sided ones as per the Heljan model. So in the respect, renumbering should make it more accurate.
SouthernBlue80s
Thanks chaps. I looked at a few pictures and they looked similar to me. But I am no expert on them. Andyman, that is an interesting observation. So a weathered 25190 it is. Cheers Steve

RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted December 5, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2022 It may not bother you and I haven’t investigated whether Heljan have differentiated in their models but 25252 …. D7602… is a 25/3 and 25190 …. D7540 …. Is a 25/2 25/3s had an electronic speedometer which was part of the control system whereas 25/2s had a mechanical speedometer drive. Would have different heads on the axle box cover…
EddieK
Whatever the detail differences, let's see a photo of the finished loco.

I will look into it once the model arrives however to see what covers it has.

Halvarras
A nice weathering job for sure - however the body is the wrong way round on the chassis. Or is the chassis the wrong way round under the body........? Well, anyway, the battery box/fuel tank should be towards the No 1 (radiator grille) end! I don't have a Heljan Class 25 but I trust this is a quick fix. 1

I will flip it round tomorrow. Thanks again. Glad I posted the pictures up now, as I wouldn't have re checked it myself.
SouthernBlue80s
Final pictures posted with things correct. Pleased with the roof, the front needs toning down a touch. Thank you all for your help with this. Steve 4 1
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted March 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2023 Looks superb, especially the roof. I though it was the real thing until I spotted the Peco point. 2
