SomethingTrainLover
Well the coaches in the show that the red coaches are "based on", as seen in the catalog, are the ones seen in the CGI era, which is loosely based on Coach 4, but it's proportions and dimensions are just all over the place. The only "base" those "provided" for the Bachmann model was the TR livery. In terms of the classic series, ie S4, then yeah. The red coaches in S4 were based off Coaches 1-2, but the livery was as Tom said, Black foot boards, red livery with the waist level paneling painted yellow and the number 1 painted in yellow on the doors. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2019 (edited) Apart from the grabs and door handles there’s no difference. The hinges on the offside are all there too. Just like the Talyllyn originals in detail. All they really need is some satin varnish to tone them down a bit. On the left is the off side and on the right the platform side. Excellent service again from Tootally Edited December 18, 2019 by PaulRhB 3 1
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 18, 2019 (edited) Well I’ve found a bit of a whoops! You can’t couple the coaches! The nice little coupling hook prevents the 009 loop from raising enough to pass over the 009 hook. You’ll need to either snip off the hook, cut a slot into the back of the loop or only use one loop on one end of each coach. How’d you miss that one? RMweb Premium Nile Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 18, 2019 A comparison with the old Meridian Models kit parts: Wheels are 7mm and non-magnetic.
RMweb Premium Nile Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 18, 2019 A simple solution to the coupling problem is to fit Peco ones, they work ok here.
DavidB-AU
Thinking ahead about freelancing, is it possible/easy to remove the couplers completely and replace them with metal screw couplers or square head choppers? Cheers David
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted December 19, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 19, 2019 Yes it is a NEM pocket and that unscrews too. TR use screw couplings, hence the buffers, but they’d be approx TT scale and virtually impossible to use on the layout. If you use choppers you really need to remove the buffers. 1
SomethingTrainLover
Got around to finally getting a bunch of them, 2 reds and one of the blues are now converted into the Standard SR coach stock blue w/ cream as seen in the RWS. Now I just need Coach 3 and Van 5 to complete the full original “vintage” rake
