  1. My first kit bash came as a result of a box of bits given to me by a work mate of my Dad c1963. Amongst the useful bits such as Airfix buildings there was a working Gaiety 0-6-0 chassis and a part built City of Truro kit. A Collett cab from varnished card and a lot of filler produced a fair representation of a 2251.
  2. I see that 'Mr Silver Fox' put two ETHELs on a well known internet site last week. Good call? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Fox-Bachmann-BR-ETHEL1/202353747787?hash=item2f1d39274b:g:orAAAOSwiVJbNUDN https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Fox-Bachmann-BR-ETHEL2/202353721968?hash=item2f1d38c270:g:2doAAOSwr69bNQTJ
  3. With the recent crop of 0-6-0 tender classes delivered or announced, I still need a Johnson 2F. Failing that I'd have to seriously consider a Class 103, 104, 116 or 120. Wish list over.
  4. Hardly enough time to develop a good head of froth.
  5. Some eejits think it is quite OK to use a disposable BBQ on dry moorland grass.
  6. I picked up some Craftsman window bars for mine from a well-known internet site. Worth a look.
  7. Not a picture but what's in my daily dose of junk advertising through the letterbox. Item 1) Flyer for special deal on large pizza, wedges, garlic bread and "chicken strippers" whatever they are. Item 2) Five day free pass offer for the local gym Item 3) Flyer for a Sports Injury Clinic.
  8. Any player going to ground and holding his head as if he has been panned with a shovel should be immediately stretchered off and made to lie down for five minutes then take a concussion assessment before being allowed to take any further part in the game. His team can play with 10 men for that period or immediately sub him.
  9. ABC Guide to Argentine Football Tactics. Plan A - Get the ball to Messi Plan B - Repeat Plan A Plan C - If plan B doesn't work get the ball to Messi
  10. The site this comes from Rail-Online could throw up a few. There appears to be a cover for some valve rod ends or similar. http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p30480076
  11. Looks like you could be right about the penalties. Don't think I have ever seen one awarded for having the ball headed against your hand from behind. Surprised that he awarded the Spanish goal. I was expecting him to penalise Ramos for making it look like the deferder had thrown him over.
  12. Today's bike ride was a bit warm. Took a mainly easy and transport-historical route after a big climb out of Hayfield. Peak Forest Tramway to Bugsworth Basin followed by Peak Forest Canal to Disley. Across Lyme Park (refreshment stop) to the Middlewood Way formerly known as the Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway, then Macclesfield Canal and Peak Forest Canal back to New Mills and the Sett Valley Trail formerley the Hayfield Branch back to the start. When I looked at the download of the ride stats the average temperature was just over 27C, with a minimum in a breeze under the trees in Lyme Park of 23C and a maximum in open sun on the canal bank around noon of 33C.
  13. I'm feeling a bit cool in the kitchen now, but the temperature in there has gone down to 25C. When I went to the greenhouse to check it at lunchtime it was 35C, cooler than the day the Saddleworth fire really got going when it peaked at 41C.
  14. BBC uses the official way of reading from instruments housed in a Stevenson Screen. This shade the thermometer, etc but still allows free air circulation thus giving a comparable value whatever the weather conditions outside. The sun temperature here at the moment is about 10C above the screen temperature..
  15. The King was probably overkill on the GW route for a lot of services. Around 1960 the timing difference between Banbury and Snow Hill was only about 2 minutes more for a Castle with the same load. In terms of load, IIRC a King was allowed 2 coaches more than a Castle on the same timings over that stretch.
  16. Except for the start up Camden Bank and the bit between Proof House and New Street the L&B line didn't have anything steeper than 1 in 330. For Camden they got a push start from the loco that had brought the stock into Euston. At New Street it was down hill from the platform through the tunnel then a steep climb for about 300 yards from Park St to New Canal St.
  17. They did actually appear on occasions. The lack of them was more down to there being no need for a big loco on the Birmingham trains. After all, before the Jubilees some were hauled by a Compound. Even when Pacifics did start to appear regularly the evening train via Northampton could produce anything from a Class 24 to a Coronation.
  18. You don't still think the World Cup has anything to do with th football do you?I thought it was about making money, personal ego trips and going on a jolly. Why else would they want to increase it to 48 teams?
  19. They're going home, they're going home, Deutschland, Deutschland's going home
  20. Some discussion here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/130355-gwr-74xx-pannier-tank-from-64xx-whats-different/?hl=74xx
  21. For those who want to run one but haven't got an excuse, this one was captured by Michael Mensing at Lapworth on Sunday 8th November 1961 with a headlamp in the Class B position. http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrl2500.htm I wonder if it was in the context of Local Passenger train or Breakdown Train not going to clear the line?
  22. Mainline issued them in blood & custard numbered W176W and W178W in 1983/4 then Dapol sold some remaining ex Mainline W176W stock in 1985.
