What, the weathering or the price?
-
More like left next to the fan when the brown stuff was discharged.

I refer the honourable member to the picture I posted earlier. A line used for Class 1 drags about three months of the year in those days. The siding to the right was still in use although empty on that day.

I would say half the asking price would be a generous offer

I got the loch, places and the symbols but the most popular map stopped me winning.

Wright writes.....
TheSignalEngineer replied to Tony Wright's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
One black and one white was quite common at New Street in the 1960s. I wonder what the 'Authority' would have made of the LM style lamp hanging from the WR pattern smokebox lamp iron of a 9F I posted earlier in the thread. -
They managed to lose a pair of shoes ordered by Mrs SE last month. Got misdirected somewhere and no trace. Only going from Bradford to the Dark Peak, takes about an hour to drive on a good day. Any road up, visiting rescheduled for later date without need of car. Boys are coming over for Christmad so using the time I would be sitting in a traffic jam to tidy the railway room for an operating session later in the week. Track cleaned and points tested. Only problem one set of points in fiddle yard may be a bit distorted. Not a big problem as they are usually run over trailing but some things derail if propelled over them. Will put the level on them tomorrow to see if they need tweaking or replacing. Then it will be empty the mini Dyson and see if there is anything to reclaim from the Carpet Fairy.

My intended programme for this week is being completely shafted due to cancellations on Northern and others. Yesterday extensive road detour for burst water mains due to United Utilities lack of investment and zero maintenance of the system. Now find that first leg of one train trip not running, alternative route middle leg cancelled for part of way. Now looking at options three and four. If I decide to go ahead it will cost me one hotel booking, a tank full of diesel and staying sober. On top of that I will probably also miss one local gathering to which we are invited. Not a happy bunny tonight, but glad I haven't already spent £200+ in advance train tickets. Think I may just stay at home, get the tools out and do some muddeling. make a big 'Bah Humbug' illuminated sign. I will put it up in a prominent place to annoy the __$$__ out back who has covered his house in lights and leaves them on all night. (expletives deleted)

Crewe North and South didn't have 100mph running but two power frames with Block working operated a much miore complex railway and traffic pattern than the current signalling. The Trent Valley line also kept mechanical frames working station/junction areas until recently using TCB between the boxes and a theoretical headway of about 2 minutes at 100mph (although only Network Rail bosses would think that was possible for timetabling purposes in the real world).

In the mid-1980s there was a reorganisation in our department of BR which proposed doing away with locking designers, fitters and testers. The then RS&TE was sure that the need for them would soon be history. He suggested that as I and my sidekick could both design and test locking and one of the otjer reps was experienced at building locking and testing frames there wasn't a problem. I pointed out that at the current rate of progress there would be many frames left long after we had retired. Fifteen years so far and counting.

I think the Cambrian was chosen as the RETB was getting long kin n the tooth and a failure during the testing phase would not cause major disruption to the rest of the national network. Regarding system development times, let's not forget that when Beardy was taking on the WCML franchise Railtrack promised him that it would be fully operational providing cab signalling for a 140mph service by 2005. Some of us in the industry at the time were shouted down and sidelined when we suggested that introduction with the 2020 timetable was somewhat optimistic. I decided that enjoyong a long and happy retirement playing with my own trains was preferably to trying to fulfil their impossible promises.

I once saw a Class 50 heading west through Hayle with a single 16 ton mineral wagon. I posted the picture somewhere on here a long time ago. -
I once received 20% discount and proceeded to buy a West Country and two 64xx tanks with best offers 15% under the seller's already discounted own website price. Recouped several months of my own ebay selling fees.

There are at least half a dozen groups on FB dedicated to buying and selling model railways, even one describing itself as an on-line swapmeet.

I got an ad for maternity wear this morning. Think were are a few years past that.

When I started pway manufacturing drawings and our S&T level crossing and building GA drawings were usually done at 1:96. On metrication they changed to 1:100
-
IIRC 1:80 was the scale of the British Trix models which were neither OO nor HO. They scaled out at about 3.8mm : 1ft

IMHO the Airfix body (later made by Dapol) was better but the original chassis was rubbish. I have a mixture of 6 bought very cheaply from odds and sods boxes at shows and shops. Remounted on Bachmann or kit-built chassis and weathered they look much better than the Bachmann one. Scrap bodies from chassis donors were mounted on spare Airfix chassis for the grandchildren to play with.
