  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I too managed to scrape my car in a supermarket car park. The local Asda's car park is in the basement of the store which means that thereare dozens of pillars supporting the building above. As I was reversing into a bay alongside one of the pillars I heard a scraping sound, when I checked there were some bad scratches on the rear wheel arch. The cause was the bottom 18 inches of the pillar widened out by 3 or 4 inches and this was not visible in my mirrors. Muggatee awaits, be back later.
  2. It didn't work for me either until Jamie posted the link.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Not done much today except the crossword, thats all, be back later.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday GDB and welcome to the septuagenarians club. As for next doors extension I was wondering if perhaps it was built today it would require planning permission at all (20' by 12'), hopefully it complies with building regs but it has stood for at least 30 years without any problems. Muggatee awaits, be back later.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Still got the builders in next door and this morning they had a very large skip delivered, even bigger than the one hired by the previous owners. As it turns out the previous owners to them, who were here when I moved in 30 years ago didn't bother to get planning permission for the extension (that was also present 30 years ago). Luckily for the new owners the council have granted retrospective planning permission. So much for the previous owners solicitors who failed to spot that one.
  6. All the Matchbox light commercials were 1/76 or very close to that scale so that it didn't notice. The J2 pick-up and the Trojan and Volkswagen vans were 1/75 scale for example.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. No sign of rain this morning, plenty of sunshine which hopefully will last for the day. Not much else to report, be back later.
  8. I should have mentioned that it was a lodging turn but the drivers could still find themselves doing the return trip on a not very clean steam engine.
  9. An elderly member of my model railway club also drove the Blue Pullmans out of St. Pancras and he informed me the drivers were at first issued with the white coats but they proved impractible on what was then still a steam railway. He said that the drivers were resposible for the white coats but it was quite often that after a turn on the Pullmans they often found the 'return' duty was driving a steam freight and they had to keep the white coats clean. Despite management objections the drivers simply ceased wearing them.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The rain returned with a vengence earlier this evening. Its stopped for now but predicted to be even heavier tomorrow, not that I'm worried, I'm going nowhere until later. Microwave has just pinged so its dinner time, be back later.
  11. As with the motorcycles some are and some are nearer to 1/64 scale.
  12. The Husky Zephyr estate and forward control Landrover were spot on 1/76 scale. Efsi also made a Commer walk-through van that was also spot on for 1/76.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Windy outside at the moment but the rain has stopped. Usual bin wagons dawn chorus, I was a bit worried as the wind was blowing my black bag a few metres along the street, its so light nowadays as most goes into the recycling but the bin men caught it in time. Tony, if it had been 'in season' you could have popped into Quainton Road, I spend hours in the second hand book shop when I'm there.
  14. Only if some idiot crashes into the boot.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I see the war of the roses has now broken out here on ER's. I have no connections with either county AFAIK, I'm an Essex lad born and bred (mostly) with a bit of Kent and the west country thrown in for good measure. Also here we produce the better beer than either and the best cricket.
  16. Mechanical transmissions were not too far behind PE systems. The usual mechanical (semi-automatic) transmission used in most British DMU's was developed for WW1 tanks.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit wet and windy here at the moment, prediction is that that its going to be a little less wet but a lot more windy. Not much else to report, muggatee ready so its be back later.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The house next door though it has a 'To let' notice out front is still in the possession of the builders, I suspect it needs a bit more work than the new buyers expected. Not a lot else to report, muggatee to be drunk, back later.
