  1. A few of the records at the end survived as well. My surname would be just before Webb, my grandfathers record didn't survive but his brother my great uncles did.
  2. A good part of the records for WW1 soldiers were lost in an air raid in 1940. Known as the 'Burnt records' some have been recovered using modern methods. Only those at the beginning of the alphabet survived. I was able to obtain my fathers records as I found his army paybook after he died but both my grandfathers records were lost as above. Medal records are available and they give a brief summary of units served in.
  3. You could never rate your own posts on the old forum.
  4. I just spotted a thread that I had posted on just before the change over. The threads that I have posted on are usually indicated by a star but in this case there was only the usual black dot. I assume this is to do with 'My Content' and is still a work in progress.
  5. I've reset my password from the one that Andy gave me back to my original password. When I first set the password it was rated 'good' but now it is only rated as 'weak'. I suppose I will have to find a new one.
  6. Have you tried the NRM? They hold all sorts of records as does the National records office.
  7. I can't see any post numbers? This makes it difficult to cross reference items.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sun now shining but still bl@@dy cold! I did find the equivalent to 'my content', by accident. Problem is that at the moment it has not been migrated over yet and it only shows items posted since the 'new' RMweb opened so it looks as though we will have to wait. Thanks John, I signed up to word press follow your blogs while RMweb was down.
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Well thats the first few hours of the new look forum and I'm getting the hang of it though I still haven't found the 'My content' page.
  10. I don't know whats happened but I seem to have re-posted an earlier post*. Thats despite trying things out on a couple of other forums that use the same 'forum provider' if thats the correct term. Both had already changed to the same format as RMweb and in one case an almost identical minor problem with signing in. *I've found the 'hide' button (which wasn't hidden.)
  11. Its nice having the road to yourself.
  12. Hello all from Estuary-Land. Great to be back, yesterday I took a look out of the window at 6 am. There was a light covering of snow but quite clear so I went back to bed. I arose at 7:30 and looked out and there was thick fog that had fallen in the last hour and a half. The fog didn't lift completely until the early afternoon. Now to catch up on the other threads, be back later.
  13. Morning yet again, see you all after the interegum.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up early with a stinking cold, thought I'd got rid of it a week ago so its back to bed now, see you all in a couple of days,
  15. Have a look at some of the military modelling websites as well. I have found all sorts of items including furniture and a complete bathroom.
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. We have a 'yellow snow warning' for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, could be up to 3 centimetres (just over an inch), I expect Ian A will be laughing his socks off. The shutdown will be as long as a piece of string in my estimation, I'll have to log on early tomorrow before it starts. Thats it for now, be back later.
