  1. You shouldn't lose a NCB if no claim is made. After the incident above I have reported any incident even if the damage is minimal and the insurance company have noted it and thats it, it has never affected my NCB.
  2. I would like to see more photographs/details of the stock used on these trains. Is there a list somewhere of continental stock stranded in the UK by the war? (And a list of British stock left on the continent.)
  3. This happens when you either leave a page before it finishes loading or cancel an unfinished post. You just have to clear the box using the button at the bottom of the page.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I done a GDB this morning, luckily the only injury was to my pride. On my bedside unit I have an old CD player which is now so little used that things such as boxes of tissues reside upon it. Immediately above it fixed to the wall is a small bookshelf. This morning I accidently knocked the 'open' button on the CD player flipping the box of tissues down the back of unit. After a bit of a scrabble I managed to retrieve the box but in doing so managed to bang my head on the bookshelf. As a suggestion what about GDB wearing a cyclists helmet? but please, PLEASE no lycra.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Been a bit warm here today and still hasn't cooled very much but make the most of it as it will be cooler towards the end of the week. Oats are also reckoned to reduce blood pressure, I sometimes consume a soya based yoghurt containing oats that also has minimal amounts of sugar and salt.
  6. Is there any possibility of reinstating post numbers? Its taken me ages to find a post from a couple of weeks ago. I know of the objections to post numbers, about if another post is cancelled or deleted it alters all subsequent numbers but is this such a problem? The percentage of deleted posts must be very small compared to the number of posts made so deleted posts shouldn't be a major problem, in the past if I found a numbered post had changed its number it was usually a simple matter to page up until it was found. Could not any deleted posts be replaced with a message such as @Deleted by Admin/poster' or 'Cancelled by poster'?
  7. Report it to your insurance company ASAP. Someone once collided with my car when it was stationary. As there was no significant* damage to my car I didn't bother to inform my insurance company. Next thing I knew the other driver had claimed against me despite it being her fault. If you do not report it the insurance company will assume it was your fault. *Some of the other cars paint had scraped on to the end of a (chrome) bumper and was easily cleaned off.
  8. I understand that the French wagons were used as they were out of gauge for other than the 'ferry' routes, as the guns themselves were out of gauge for a lot of lines this didn't matter so much. Some more photos/details of these wagons would be welcome. I have seen some very clear photographs of these wagons though I can't remember where. It might be an early edition of Back Track or possibly Railways South East. IIRC it was being shunted by one of the LMS jackshaft drive 0-6-0 diesel shunters.
  9. I think it may be due to the connecting rods being further outboard due to the outside frames and problems only occurred on the sharper curves. The original Bulleid designed 0-6-0 diesel shunters did have slightly larger wheels.
  10. Morning awl* from Estuary-Land. Quite a bit of frost last night but its now gone and now there's wall to wall sunshine. Next door has apparently finished the repairs and the new tenants have moved in. They have two rather large vans that are too long for the driveway so they parked them in the street, across my driveway and the disabled bay of the neighbour on the other side. They moved them when I threatened to tell their landlord, I don't know (or care) where the vans went but they're gone. *We seem to be slipping lately, I'm just as guilty but a little reminder that the awl will be back eventually.
  11. This months 'Back Track' (March) features model goods yards, museum quality is the best description.
  12. I understood that the 08's were not allowed on lines with third/fourth rails. The Southerns own version of the 08 had larger wheels, this was to avoid the connecting rods coming into contact with the third rail.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Sorting through my various purchases over the weekend. This morning I purchased a brace of vintage plastic kits from an American company called Roundhouse. Both are H0 scale, the first is of a Shay locomotive and the second contains a San Francisco cable car complete with a winding house structure. There is what also appears to be a couple of other models squeezed into the box as well.
  14. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Swap meet visited, modelling tokens duly distributed and second 5p off voucher used to purchase petrol. Car has given 46 mpg, not bad as that includes shopping trips and heavy traffic. I now have another Tesco's 5p off voucher, my friend who doesn't have a car found one in a shopping trolley, and its valid until 9th March.
  15. Here is a drawing of the ammunition wagon usually attached to the rail mounted gun (as produced by Oxford Rail). Borrowed from another thread (Oxford rail gun).
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Off to dispose of some more modelling tokens shortly, muggatee to be drunk, be back later.
  17. Sorry to hear of your loss John but 102 is a good innings. Great pics by the way.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a good day at Tenterden today, a pretty good show with plenty of layouts that were new to me. Picked up a few scenic items and a couple of books and even had a pretty decent lunch in the school canteen which had opened for the show. We also spent a couple of hours at the K&ESR, found some interesting mags in the second hand shop in the museum as well. As I approached Sadlers Farm it got very thick and remained so until well past Tarpots corner. It was also very thick crossing the QE2 bridge, you could see the support cables but not the towers until you were within about 25 metres of them.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Just a quick hello before going off to Tenterden. Still a bit foggy but lifting and getting a bit clearer. Muggatee to be drunk first, be back later.
  20. Perhaps it was the same as the LGOC buses, pressed into service still in civilian colours and painted when the paint became available.
