  1. What could have caused delay was the driver claimed the car had been stolen. It was quickly proven that he had been behind the wheel (CCTV?) so all he did was to make the charge sheet longer.
  2. Back on track (in more ways than one). http://www.essexlive.news/news/essex-news/man-arrested-abandoning-car-grays-2785050
  3. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Popped into town this afternoon, went down a road that I haven't walked down for ages. Virtually every shop was boarded up on one side, then I remembered being told that that side was designated for redevelopment. I usually wait for the washer bottle to empty and then top it up, I carry fresh fluid in the car for that purpose. Having said that I had used the washers a couple of days before and some could have got into the air vents. Better in a shepherds pie, that was the usual fate of left over roast lamb from Sunday dinner. I still have my mum's old hand operated mincing machine somewhere.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Over the weekend I used the car A/C for the first time for ages. It was OK to start with but then the car was filled with a smell best described as rotten cheesy socks. Luckily it soon cleared and hasn't come back. I suspect it was some water trapped in the system that became stagnant and warmed up with the car standing in the sun.
  5. Thats what you measure gas/water/electricity with.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a good look at the large scale map that I obtained today. Opening it out fully I found it included the land required for Ripple Lane hump shunting yard. This was of course before the yard was built and some of the annotations are dated 1951. I've also tried the locomotive chassis against the 3D printed body, it looks like a good fit.
  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Spent a few modelling tokens at Canvey, some even spent on railway models. Sadly there were not as many layouts there as in previous years but I managed to find a chassis that looks as if its suitable for a 3D printed loco body that I have. I also snaffled a couple of old 25 inch OS maps, one of which includes Dagenham Dock. Rick, best wishes to SWMBO and to yourself of course. LE, I hope that the person who hacked the deceased ladies FB account is caught. I second that, I use a dry fryer, very healthy.
  8. I have a couple of these, I intend to make them high roof versions so out with the Milliput.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A quick hello and goodbye as I'm off shortly to Canvey. No sign of the dreaded hay fever yet, the car has pollen filters and hopefully it won't be too bad at Canvey as the wind direction is off the water.
  10. And signwritten with a contractors name. Did it have a 'Highways maintenance' sign on the back?
  11. A couple of snippets. The US military and other institutions such as NASA use the metric system and nothing else. They also use GMT wherever in the world they are. The Irish broad gauge of 5' 3" translates exactly to 1600 millimetres, a nice round figure.
  12. I'll be going via South Benfleet to collect my friend and his lad. I expect hold ups at Sadlers Farm but theres no way of avoiding that.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Done absolutely nothing today, I just couldn't find the round tuit. Not much will be done tomorrow either as I'm off to the model railway exhibition at the Canvey bus museum.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I don't think I will be doing much outside today, the hay fever has kicked in already. Plenty to do indoors when I get a round tuit. Muggatee to be drunk, be back later.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've done absolutely zilch with the garden shed today. As soon as I ventured outside the hay fever kicked in so I beat a hasty retreat. Things were better this afternoon but I just felt lazy, I will probably start on the clearing out next week when the seaweed twirlers are predicting it to be a bit cooler.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. About to proceed through the old garden shed, found a few things long forgotten about that are still useful. I checked the council website and Pitsea still accepts items such as old paint tins, IIRC they have special disposal bins for such items. Instead of hiring a skip I can take a few trailer loads down to the tip to save a bit of cash, thats if they accept trailers, some disposal sites don't nowadays nor do they accept vans over a certain size.
  17. In old photographs lighting appears more yellow as this was the colour produced by incandescent lights. Our brains actually tricked us into believing that we were seeing white light. If you travel in an old carriage that still has incandescent lighting you will be surprised just how yellow it appears.
  18. The route of HS2 was planned long before those houses were built. I wonder if its the same as occurred with the Lower Thames crossing. The local authority had turned down the planning application only for it to be granted by the Minister. Now some new properties are in the way of the access roads to the new crossing and will have to be demolished.
  19. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Tonights meeting wasn't, when I arrived at the house where the meeting was to take place it was in darkness and no one answered the door. So I checked the paperwork, it was the right address and the right time but the date of the meeting was the 25th! At least next week I won't have any difficulty finding the address and will have a pretty good idea of how long it will take to get there. Its no longer paint exactly, more like empty tins with a solid coating on the inside.
