  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late on parade as well as the pages on RMweb seem to 'stick'. Sunny but a bit windy but dry at the mo. Onion is the perfect addition to cheddar cheese, I forgot to mention it was with the cheddar/scrumpy. When I make cheese on toast there is usually a layer of chopped onion between the bread and the cheese.
  2. 35 years ago I lived in Burnham-on-Crouch and every year during Yachting Week very expensive 'supercars' abound. About 1985 when the electrification of the Southminster branch was going on rebuilding of the railway bridge was necessary. In the process a temporary Bailey bridge was placed alongside the original bridge accessed by a chicane built of old railway sleepers. This was during Yachting Week and on three consecutive nights the chicane collected a Lamborghini, a Porsche and an American 'muscle-car', all write offs.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Happy birthday Brian and many more of them. Our twin town is Meaux, a beautiful old town east of Paris. Last time their model railway club visited our exhibition they brought a large brie and some bottles of wine for our delectation, excellent! Its quite a few years now since I visited Meaux but I usually bought some home with me. I remember many years ago (40?) stopping off in Cheddar and enjoying a cheese sandwich (a great big chunk of cheddar between two slices doorsteps of bread) washed down by a couple of pints of scrumpy.
  4. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Rain hasn't stopped since this morning but its eased off somewhat. I saw a FIAT Abarth yesterday in the supermarket car park. It looked as if it had a black plastic nappy on the bonnet.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The sun was shining first thing this morning but now its clouded over with heavy rain predicted with possibly hail and thunder. Despite the wet and chilly weather the poppies are flowering and I watched a bee with well laden pollen sacs making the most of the flowers yesterday. Muggatee to be drunk, be back later.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Didn't do much today, I decided to get the stuff out late this afternoon to continue with the young mans layout. By the time I'd got it all ready the heavens opened so I had to put it all away again.
  7. Its not the colour of the grapes that determines the colour of wine but the method of fermentation.
  8. When I visited Mangapps a few years ago visible from the train was a crop that was very like oil-seed rape but was a purple colour. I asked John Jolley what it was and he said it was linseed. It had been planted as an experiment and was quite successful but a decision had been made not to grow any more.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Glad of the news about Q's dad. I'm glad that I don't need much in the way of medication and nothing that requires prescription. It was bright and sunny this morning but now clouding over. Not much else except to say be back later.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Last time I checked my house was over 50 metres asl. The nearest church is a Methodist one at the other end of my street but as it is newer than my house it doesn't count. The nearest 'old' church is Vange and that is about 35 metres lower.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Didn't do much today, sat down in armchair and fell asleep this afternoon. The orange rain appears to have passed us by but then living on top of a hill I don't expect to be flooded.
  12. Vettel would really start throwing his toys out of the pram in that case.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Weather the same as almost everyone elses, damp. Because of that Arthur Itis didn't know where to start but he's now been handicapped by a brace of paracetamols. I hope things are going to be OK with your dad Q, as you said, no news is good news. No progress with the baseboard for the lads layout but a few scenic items are to hand that require some painting and detailing which will get done in the next few days.
  14. The circular pattern is quite common on the Continent but not often used in the UK.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The seaweed wranglers forecast for the week ahead is wet and windy with the odd bit of sun. Not a lot been done on the lads layout because of the weather but as soon as its dry I'll be out cutting the plywood for the ends, then its only a matter of fixing it together. Tea is brewing so be back later.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning if a bit chilly but now beginning to cloud over. The poppies in the front garden are starting to flower. They are self seeded as they have been for the last few years. Muggatee awaits, be back later.
  17. Evening all from Estuary-Land. It was a bit nippy last night, so nippy that the central heating kicked in this morning. Forecast is that its going to be even cooler tonight so I expect the heating to start any time now. Looks as if the weather wont get any better until next weekend, wet and windy till then.
  18. I've started investing in stocks, beef, chicken and vegetable. One day I hope to be a bouillonaire.
