  1. I expect that extra cost is due to the fall in value of the £.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not a lot to do today just get a few things in for the weekend. The garden needs looking at so I've looked at it, not changed much since I last looked at it. Thats it for now, be back later.
  3. Thats why the double white lines are there.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Club night was quiet tonight, many members are on holiday. More news of local exhibitions, some are changing venue and/or dates. John, I cant add anything to whats already been said. As you said in the blog, try to keep busy and make the family get together as joyous an occasion as possible in the circumstances.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Club tonight, I didn't go last week as it clashed with an 'open night' at another garden railway. Just on the news, the government is considering cancelling HS2, I'll say no more but I'll nip over to the relevent thread to watch the fur flying later.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. With Johns news yesterday I decided to leave mentioning my doings till this morning. Yesterday evening was another garden railway visit. I took my friend and his young son with me as is usual but we arrived a bit late due too some confusion over the address. This was due too both the correct street and another nearby with an almost identical name falling into the same square on the street map. After going home to collect my reading glasses and a magnifying glass we were able to find the correct street on the map, about 100 yards from the 'wrong' street. Once we arrived the lad, who was getting a bit fretful at the delay got his hands on a controller and was as happy as a sandboy. I'll be staying in over the bank holiday, My friend will be visiting relatives in the midlands and I do not fancy joining the grockles on the roads.
  7. Thoughts are with John and Sandy.
  8. Which of King Arthurs Knights built the round table? Sir Cumference. Hat and coat on.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Where has the morning gone? I was up at six this morning and I've done nothing except have a bath. Any chance of a link?
  10. The first bridge (on the left) is the famous 'dancing bridge'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFzu6CNtqec
  11. The first American diesel locomotives used British Beardmore engines.
  12. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Not much to report today, weather was alternating rain-sun-rain-sun this afternoon. I would suggest where they can put the plaque and its not on the wall.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The weekend exertions seem to have caught up on me, further eyelid inspection is required, be back later.
  14. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Purchased a few items at the swap meet, all none railway items then went to collect my parcel which was the item I expected, a book on a Thames tugboat company, of particular interest to me as my dads family were from a long line of Thames watermen who ended up in the towing business. Belated birthday wishes Brian. Chris I hope your leg improves but if I were you I'd have it checked out, in the local papers a few months ago there was a report of a young woman who had a painful leg and she waited far to long to have it checked and it resulted in amputation due to diabetes which she didn't know she had.
  15. As a one time owner of a Reliant Kitten it niggled me somewhat that the Reliant owners club actively promoted the conversion of the four wheelers using aftermarket bodies but the fur would fly if anyone suggested modifying a three wheeler.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A quick hello as I'm out now to the swap meet, be back later.
  17. It appears to be the sump from a farm tractor. From the 1930's 'frameless' tractors were produced whereby the sump replaced the chassis as the main load bearing structure, things such as axles would be directly attached. The one in the picture is possibly from a skid unit, an engine with the radiator, ancillarys and sometimes a transmission attached. A skid unit would be used to power dump trucks and excavators and agricultural machinery. They were also used on cement mixer lorries, that is what looks like part of a Ford Major tractor mounted on such lorries. This is possibly one such unit with a few bits added to suit it for its role.
  18. Evening from Estuary-Land. As we were leaving the exhibition we met a fellow SEERS member. He was also leaving the exhibition and informed us that he had arrived there at eleven, the same time as us. In the three hours we were both there we never spotted each other, and the exhibition was in a single sports hall. Have to pick up a parcel from the sorting office tomorrow, as I'm expecting two parcels I'm not sure what one it is.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Had a good day at the Bishops Stortford show. Didn't buy much, a rather battered Peco 009 saddle tank on an Arnold chassis and some card and foamboard offcuts. My friends young lad won three prizes in the tombola in two tries (five tickets for a £). I decided to try getting there using the A1060 from Chelmsford via Hatfield Broad Oak, a nice relaxed drive and taking not much longer than the M25/M11 route despite congestion in B-S caused by roadworks. Tea awaits, be back later.
