  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Thought the house was getting a bit stuffy then I realised what was wrong. When I go out I shut all the windows as the house will be empty but when I got back I forgot to open them again. They are now open and the house is beginning to cool down. When I did get back the grasshoppers were kicking up a racket, it must be the mating season.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I've done sod all today but listen to the sound of drills saws and lawnmowers drifting in through the open windows. Its too hot for anything strenuous so its an all day siesta. I have made some tea however which is about to be drunk, be back later.
  3. I remember seeing one at a dealers in St. Leonards when they were first announced.
  4. Agreed, it was a perfect 10th man innings.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Its going to be another hot one so nothing will get done today. Not that it hasn't put some people off, I can hear the sounds of drilling and sawing as I type. Luckily the forecast is that its going to get cooler over the coming week. The Aussies always were bad losers.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just been watching the 'remade missing episodes' of Dads Army, well the first one anyway. Not bad but IMHO they failed to capture the frantic anarchy of the original. Perhaps it was highlighted because it followed one of the most famous episodes with Philip Madoc as the U-Boat captain (Dont tell him Pike!). The other two remakes are over the next couple of days, I will probably watch them.
  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The package I was expecting had arrived at the sorting office on Thursday, however duty was payable on it and I received a grey card. I went to pay the duty on line by Paypal only for a notice to come up transaction invalid. So I tried to pay with my bank card with the same result. When I went to my e-mails the notification from Paypal was there confirming payment? I paid the duty (again) and I am going to cancel the Paypal payment. I think the second payment from my account didn't go through as I aborted it before the process finished.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy anniversary to Andy and Mrs. ID. No need to worry about getting up late Debs, its 'Lay-in Sunday' for many ER's. The latest edition of Bylines arrived on Friday and I see that they have Chris back in harness. Quite a few other interesting items as well including some interesting self propelled hopper cars used by Fords in their Dagenham plant.
  9. The 4-litre R began as a joint developement between BMC and Rolls-Royce. The idea was a smaller R-R to compete with the likes of Daimler and Rover (Before British Leyland was formed.) . In the end Rolls-Royce pulled out but as compensation supplied the engines to BMC.
  10. Check out the Tomica range. Though they are to 'Fit the box' scale a few models are to or very near to 1/76 scale. One very good current model is the Yanmar YT5113 tractor, #83. You can almost use it straight from the box and its 1/76 scale.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Waiting for the tea to cool down a bit. Not a lot else to report.
  12. Looks rather small compared to the modern cars around it.
  13. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Sounds as if we are all in danger if GDB is in the vicinity. Today I have only zapped a few weeds with the weedkiller and disturbed a lot of grasshoppers, its too hot for any serious gardening. The package failed to arrive so I hope it turns up Tuesday. Thats it for now, be back later.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Hoping that the parcel that I'm expecting arrives this morning otherwise it wont be here until Tuesday. On the garden birds thread someone mentioned the birds flocking to an elder tree, I did advise not putting any washing out for now.
  15. If its elder better not put the washing out.
  16. My current car is a Hyundai. I purchased it new 11 years ago so perhaps its worth looking them over.
  17. Debs, our local Tesco's is also fitted out with the charging points. As my car is petrol I didn't have a good look at them but drivers of none electric cars don't seem to be parking in the bays very often. I was looking at getting a hybrid or an electric car and second hand ones are surprisingly cheap, until you get to the bit that says 'New batteries required.'
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Made a start on clearing out the storage box that sits on the patio. I'd been using it for storing things such as tiles and paint and other decorating materials. These are now going to be consigned to the garage with some other stuff from the garden shed. Things such as the mower and gardening tools will then be placed in the storage box. I did make a start this afternoon but gave up because of the heat.
  19. I like the ammo van but shouldn't it have end doors and 6 wheel bogies?
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I have planned to do a few things about the house over the bank holiday but a few will probably not be done if it gets too warm. Not a lot else to report, be back later.
  21. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Good to see Debs back, she's going to be extreamly busy with that awl. It feels like its going to be a warm night tonight, the temperature on the thermostat is currently 24.5 C. Tea awaits, be back later.
