  1. The originals were introduced in the late 40's early 50's and are rare and very sought after. These are almost certainly reproductions that were made about 10 to 15 years ago. Incidently they are 1/90 scale, the original scale.
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I remember when I had just left school (1964) when the Rolling Stones played a gig at Hastings. They actually played in the concert hall at the end of the pier. Several people tried to bunk in even resorting to using a boat. Regretably someone drowned after trying to climb along the outside of the pier. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.
  3. I have 'cut and shut' a Wrenn/Hornby-Dublo Mk. I horsebox body and fitted it to the Airfix/Dapol cattle wagon chassis to make a 'Mk. I road van' and a modeller friend has done something similar using a Lima Mk. II bodyshell.
  4. I should imagine that both cars would be more common in Australia. Here in the UK during the winter many roads are spread with salt and both vehicles suffered corrosion as a result especially the Rancho. I used to have a Prairie, a very good car but on its last test I was informed that though it passed corrosion was setting in to the inner front wings. In fact the car was written off a few months later when I was rear ended by a truck and the car rolled two or three times ending up on its roof. Despite that I walked away from the wreck with just a cut finger (on the broken glass). Despite the accident the doors still opened and shut correctly including the sliding doors and tailgate. I can't speak for the Rancho but they became notorious for rust largely due to it being invisible underneath the fibreglass outer skin.
  5. Ideal for carting layouts around. Likewise the Nissan Praire, only three left on the road last time I looked. Problem is with such a rare car would you dare take it out except on special occassions?
  6. Just went out to fetch the milk in when I heard something hit the fence about three feet behind me. It turned out to be a squirrel jumping onto the fence from the flat roof of the porch. He either didn't notice my presence or just ignored it and proceded to stroll along the fence before jumping into the shrubery.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Many happy returns Tony and many more of 'em. Have to get a replacement bath mat to replace the one that I had to dump yesterday. Luckily the main floor covering in the bathroom is washable. A couple of weeks ago the council sent the gang round to prune the planting adjacent to my house. Their usual practice is to hack everything down to within an inch of its life. This year they have only done half of the usual hacking and one large shrub has been left with a Mohican haircut. Not so bad is that some of the shrubs will have more fruit and berries for the birds to feed on over the winter.
  8. They also do the estate version in the same scale.
  9. Classix produced the E83W van not the Prefect saloon. I would prefer the 1938-1939/1946-1948 version with the separate headlamps.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. No more bleeding but I'm wondering if I should have it checked out. I had to go into my bedroom to get the dressings and I have now found some bloody footprints on the bedroom carpet. Not that noticable as the carpet is a dark brown colour but they had already dried out, does anyone know of anything that can clean them? The carpet is a wool/nylon mix (IIRC).
  11. If you need one in 1/76 Tomica made one in 1/74 scale a few years ago. I've never seen one outside of the catalogue so they might be difficult to find.
  12. Sorry that the link doesn't work. I found the item by Googling 'Maclellan railway wagons'. I have a copy of that publication too and thats why I thought it might be British made.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late on parade this morning. The reason is that this morning as I was getting out of the bath the water started turning red. It was coming from just below the ankle of my left foot and bleeding copiously. I grabbed some old towels to staunch the bleeding and fortunately it stopped after five minutes but not before the bathroom looked like a butchers shop. Fortunately it wasn't as bad as it looked, on that part of my foot I have eczema and I must have caught the dry and cracked skin. The towels are now in the washing machine but the bath mats will have to be binned. On the subject of magnets I understood that the molecules of iron are magnetic and when they align the iron becomes a magnet. This is why when a magnet is heated it loses its strength because heat agitates the molecules and they bounce around and become out of alighnment. This is why water boils, its the molecules being agitated by the heat. Thats it for now, be back later.

  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Zapped the weeds in the front path with the weedkiller, fortunately theres been no rain to wash it away. Spent a few hours on eyelid inspection this afternoon. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.
  16. Quite frankly I'm not interested in a vehicle that is not common in the UK and is only imported because it is 'trendy'. Several commissions and special liveries are in the pipeline so that seems to be the intended market.
  17. My mother lost a cousin during the war, he was flying a Halifax bomber. During my family research I obtained the maintenance sheet for the aircraft he was flying. It was a well worn Mk. III Halifax that had been cascaded down to an OTU. Since built it had had several engine changes and at the time of its loss had three Rolls-Royce engines and a single Packard engine. Although of identical power and other characteristics the Packard engine had a completely different designation.
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had a check on the patio now that the weeds have gone, it looks as if it will need lifting and relaying of the bricks though I might be able to get away with only lifting and repacking some of the bricks. KC has his cowboy builders we have the Indians. They are working on the house facing down my street and a lot of digging and carting away of soil is going on. Much of that soil seems to be spread along the street but hopefully the predicted rain will wash it away.
  19. Tomica produce a Toyota crew cab pick-up. Only thing is as they are 'fit the box' scale its 1/71 scale so might be a bit too big.
  20. I saw some on a dealers stand at a toy fair last week and I thought they looked a bit on the small side.
