  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had an enjoyable day at Shenfield. Made only a couple of purchases, one being the new Bachmann Warflat with Cromwell tank. Will have to take the car in ASAP, when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor there is a vibration, thrust bearing is the chief suspect. I do use the gears rather than the brakes, despite being 11 years old the car is still on its original disc pads. Thats it for now, be back later.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A quick hello then I'm off to the Shenfield show. Be back later.
  3. My 'shopping trolley' is a Hyundai i10, quite nippy and fun to drive and with a good performance. The biggest drawback is all the extras that are driven from the engine, I have to switch the aircon off before tackling a hill. Using the aircon can lose up to 10 mpg.
  4. They stated at the beginning that they were going to bring it forward in time (The war of the worlds) to the present day. After all they could have selected 'The time machine' as their theme.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just finished watching the GMRC and I see that an RMwebber (Jenny) was on this weeks winning team. Plywood thicknesses have been quoted in metric for as long as I can remember, and I'm 71. However sheets of plywood have allways been sold in 4' X 8' sheets though they are now stated to be 610mm X 1220mm. The same applies to other board such as MDF.
  6. I see Jenny of this parish was on the winning team.
  7. didn't realise there was a thread for each episode until Andy pointed me towards this thread.
  8. Nice to see Jenny of this parish in this weeks winning team.
  9. Its been reported that teams taking part in the rugby world cup use shampoo on the balls to simulate playing in wet weather. All except the Welsh who soak their balls in baby oil.
  10. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The brochure arrived from inside track today, theres still a few holidays to come this year but I have already made plans for the dates concerned, but next year... Don't the Japanese like their whale steaks well seasoned?
  11. I hired a Matiz when I was on holiday in Malta in 2002. Not a great car but cheap.
  12. I once had a Rascal, very nippy and fun to drive but you're allways going to be the one to arrive first at the accident.
  13. I Googled DAS87 and there seems to be several places they can be obtained from. Possibly one where you don't have to pay duty.
  14. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I agree with Brian, the off-cuts box at various DIY emporiums is a source of some usefull bits. I will shortly be laying the new bathroom floor covering. Along one side an inch or so above the floor runs the water and drain pipes, they run about four inches both out from the wall and above the floor. In the off-cuts I found two four foot lengths of 9mm ply about five inches wide, ideal for boxing in the pipes. Tomorrow I will be visiting the Shenfield show, allways a good show and usually a very good club stand.
  15. I was addicted to the Hokey-Cokey, then I turned myself around.
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I carry an organ donor card and if they find anything that isn't completely knackered worn out they're welcome to it. Made another try at sorting out the modelling room this afternoon, despite my efforts it still looks just the same. Thats it for now, be back later.
  17. Wasn't someone intending to name a cruise ship 'Titanic'?
  18. This little snippet was on another forum. During WW2 a German minelayer used to enter the Thames Estuary and lay mines every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. The British minesweepers went out the following Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights to sweep them up. One of the minesweeper commanders noted that the mines were always laid in the same places. So one Tuesday they decided to leave the mines in place and just issue a warning. The following night the German minelayer ventured out and ran smack into one of its own mines. The survivors including the captain were rescued by the Royal Navy, the German captain complaining bitterly about the minesweepers not doing their duty.
  19. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning but rather chilly as expected for this time of year. Try looking in the Driving Standards thread.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. A couple of E-bay purchases this afternoon. One is a can motor attached to a (plastic) gearbox, the gears are bright yellow and the box is clear plastic. According to the paperwork its for instructing how gears work. the other part of the package was some model scaffolding. The whole lot cost me about £8 including postage so I'm well pleased.
