  1. I would prefer if they had a dozen or so items and each team was allowed to select any three for the scratch build challenge..
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Took two hours to go the 35 miles from my friends place in South Benfleet to the I&WE showcase in Becontree Heath. The reason for the delay was they are replacing the bridges over the A13 at the Orsett Cock (up) forcing the traffic to go up the slip roads and down the other side, in single file. The traffic queues commenced at Stanford-le-Hope, about two miles before the roadworks. Coming back I used the A12/A127 which apart from the usual heavy traffic around Romford was far better.
  3. As has been said before the target audience is not railway modellers.
  4. Three very good layouts but the best layout won.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Rather dull and overcast but the seaweed wranglers say it should stay dry. Will be going out shortly to the Ilford & West Essex showcase. Thats despite a dose of the lurgy, in fact fresh air seems to keep it at bay. Tea has been drunk, be back later.
  6. But only on the right hand drive ones.
  7. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Been OK all day but the lurgi is back. A Lem-sip fortified with a drop of rum before I go to bed tonight is on the cards.
  8. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Sorting through a few things today I came across a fold up trolley for carrying suitcases. It must have belonged to my parents so its at least 30 years old. It will come in useful for moving layouts etc. Here's a word for you Hippopotomonstrosequippedaliophobia. HH needn't worry as its not a fear of hippos.
  9. A warning for dyslexics, on 26/27 October your cocks go black.
  10. Looks as if Lorenzo has changed his mind (again). http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-uk-weather-forecast-yellow-20404417#source=push Looks as if Q will not be flashing on Sunday.
  11. Thankfully my car is not on the list.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Lorenzo is expected to hit this part of the world early Sunday morning and then heading east so Q should be able to do his flashing on Sunday. I frequently used to see Steve Davis in and around Romford (my home town). There were (are?) several snooker halls in Romford. He is actually a South London lad, born in Plumstead.
  13. The pier tram was a purpose built petrol railcar made by Drewry IIRC. Bits of it survive on one of the islands preserved lines.
  14. They were used by the British Army until 1941 when they were gradually replaced by the Jerry-can the first examples of which were captured in the western desert hence the name. Look up the military modelling suppliers, they will probably be to 1/72 scale but that will be barely noticeable.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Looking at the weather reports it seems that Storm Lorenzo is going on the grand tour. Its cutting eastwards across Northern Ireland then heading south-east to Wales and then the West Country and then tracking east along the south coast and then north east to take in South East England. It looks as if Saturday will be the better day of the weekend.
  16. Have to keep a watch on the TV schedules now.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I've had a bit of a cold over the past couple of days and last night it turned into a full blown lurgi. Don't feel so bad this morning except being knackered by the lack of sleep. I'd forgotten that, it resulted in the Nelson being built in its odd 'cut-and-shut' form. Ironically the treaty was largely ignored by many countries. One thing that it didn't cover was aircraft carriers.
  18. Including the hand pump for refueling, plus a few other things to keep the locomotive running such as tools, lubricants and maybe even a bucket of sand (for slippery rails.
