  1. They might be genuine bag ladies looking for somewhere to stay over Christmas.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Plenty of eyelid inspection this morning. Woke up just before six decided on a bit more shut-eye and didn't wake up again until nine. No time for a long soak in the bath just a quick shower instead. The problem with the bath is as I run the bath the pressure drops right off so yesterday I went up in the loft and opened the valve on the boiler for a minute or two which seems to have sorted the problem. Bright sunshine this morning but still breezy, will be checking the week ahead weather later. I was thinking of going to the Bexleyheath exhibition but the thought of all the Christmas traffic on the Dartford crossing put me off. Thats it for now, be back later.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. New kettle tested and ready for duty tomorrow.
  4. On a cruise ship in mid Atlantic where it was rather windy the captain received a report that one of the lady passengers was exposing herself on the sun-deck. When he got to the sun-deck he saw the woman holding on to her hat in the wind which was lifting her skirts revealing that she was wearing nothing underneath. The captain went up to her and said "You do know that you're exposing your private parts. Wouldn't it be better if you let your hat go and you held your skirts down?" She answered "Whats down there has been about for 75 years, I only bought this hat last week."
  5. That was a typo, now ammended from off to on.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. My kettle has been playing up recently, switching off before it has boiled and not wanting to stay switched on. So this afternoon I bought a replacement. The new kettle is still waiting to be used as I decided to use the old kettle just one more time, and it worked perfectly!
  7. I have replaced most if not all the light bulbs in my house with LED bulbs. They all give an even 360o coverage so I don't see why street lights cant do the same.
  8. Putting the word 'smart' in front of anything means that those who are not (smart) don't have to even try.
  9. HH, when do you expect PH to recover?
  10. I have two of the small ones, unbuilt and unopened. Having purchased them I realised that I had no suitable wall to hang them on. The walls in my house are either not able to take the weight or the cabinets (and contents) or would be in direct sunlight. Reading the above it appears that the larger cabinets can be floor standing so I intend to buy a couple of those. I have a friend who wants a couple of the smaller cabinets so disposing of the ones I have is not a problem.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sunny/cloudy/sunny here this morning and that means its windy. Not up to hooley standards but the wind noise is noticable. (No not that wind noise!) A word of warning if you are having a 'real' Christmas tree in the house. There is a rising incidence of such trees harbouring insect eggs. When the trees are bought indoors the light and heat triggers the hatching of those eggs. People have found their homes infested with juvenile insects and/or spiders. It is happening quite often in the US but a few instances have been reported in the UK.
  12. No takers? The actor in question was Patrick MacNee and he played Lt. Commander Medley, an aide to the C-in-C.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Yet another exhibition cancelled, Highbridge this weekend. The reason is rather unusual, an outbreak of influenza at the school where the exhibition was due to be held has affected most of the pupils and staff. That is now cultural http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50770641
  14. If you follow the road towards the bridge on the street view above you are dazzled by the low sun as you go beneath the arched bridge. This could be a possible explanation as to why the bus driver didn't see the bridge.
  15. The bodies were visible apparently so it was decided to recover them. The recovery crew were only on the island for a few minutes.
  16. I was wondering what happened. I was about to give your post a like when it said I couldn't do so. when I came out of the thread and then back in again it had gone, very strange.
  17. In todays paper, six bodies have been recovered from the island by the NZ army with the aid of the SAS. Surveys by drone had identified where they lay and it was a quick go in, collect the bodies and out again. It is simply too dangerous to search for the other two missing.
  18. A little snippet. Today is the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. Now a little teaser, which actor in the film had been a Royal Navy officer for real in WW2 and what character did he play in the film? A clue, he played a Royal Navy officer.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Didn't get a lot in todays shopping, bread and papers basically. I have started on looking at items for Christmas dinner. A bit early yet as I like to have things as fresh as possible but if I leave it too late some things that I want might sell out, its all in the timing. Todays dinner will be prepared in the next hour or two, fish pie.
  20. So what do you do if it indicates you are rapidly losing pressure in a tyre while doing 70mph on a motorway?
  21. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not much to say about politics only that last nights results were not exactly unexpected but personally disappointing. I'm inclined to the same opinion of a certain politician as Chris F. Annoying thing this morning with regard to the election coverage on the BBC was there was no weather reports? or for that matter any other news other than the election.
  22. You can't see it unless your on Farcebook. Problem also is it is too large for the page, being in portrate format I had to watch it twice to understand what was going on, first the top half then the bottom half. You can cut and paste from Farcebook and in some cases everyone can see (but not all posts, something to do with the settings I imagine).
