  1. I seem to recall mention of a narrow gauge explosives van so perhaps the preserved van is it?
  2. The locomotive is a Hardy/FWD. They were converted from the WW1 FWD lorries.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Wind has subsided and the clouds are thin enough for a bit of moonlight to get through. No evidence of damage except for the twigs from the shrub I mentioned earlier. The show went well yesterday, we have eleven people interested in joining, some of whom were unaware of the societys existance until yesterday. No tickets were issued so the number through the door is uncertain but going by the receipts at the door I would guess at about 200-250 plus quite a number of under 16's who were not charged. Thats it for now, be back later.
  4. Wasn't the brake van made so narrow so that it could be placed on to the wider gauge transporter wagons with the slate wagons?
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Not much evidence of any storm damage here but apparently the roof has been blown off the Cliffes Pavilion at Southend. The pics show it as being still attached by one corner but with the rain getting in the damage must be considerable.
  6. Censored! another word is richards.
  7. Morning all from a very windy Estuary-Land. Its certainly blowing a hooley out there, enough to rattle the roof tiles. I have but one wheelie bin, a green one for garden/kitchen waste. Its still upright but has 'walked' backwards a couple of feet. It must be bottom heavy as the biggest content is used tea leaves which fill about half of it. The only other damage is one of the mature shrubs has lost a couple of branches, twigs really, not that it matters as it needs a good pruning anyway. When I arrived home yesterday from the show I realised I had sprained a wrist. I have not the slightest idea of how I done it. Fortunately this morning it has little troubled me so its well on the mend. The 4-D-Jones cartoons were by Peter Maddocks but as I have never read the Daily Express I can't add any more.
  8. Poplar Depot. https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5158247,-0.0065001,3a,75y,81.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1siQV3Db1qc4AI4W8tbhiGJQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. By all accounts the show went well today. It certainly did if the number of people coming through the door is anything to go by, at times it was quite crowded. I purchased a few second hand books from the B17 society stand. Not all of them railway books either. One was a booklet entitled 'Southend then and now' published in 1994 so its more a case of then and then. Time to put the dinner on, be back later.
  10. These locomotives were 2-2-0's converted from railmotor units.
  11. The one I mentioned used the turbocharger and alternator from a Harley-Davidson. It was in the USA though the car was RHD. Another mod it had was late model VW Beetle front wings incorporating the headlights. Despite being converted to 12V it still had the 6V starter motor.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit of a rush as I have to be at Leigh-on-Sea in about one minutes time. Seriously though I now don't have to as there will not be a layout for me to transport and set up. But I will be off shortly so have a good day all.
  13. I wonder if the driving wheels ever tried to set off in two different directions?
  14. There is a Ford Pop running around with Aquaplane head, electronic ignition, alternator and a turbocharger.
  15. Very sorry to hear that, thoughts are with you.
  16. I seem to have something in my eye.
  17. One reason why the W&C stock was rejected in favour of the ex-LT stock was that none were equipped with windscreen wipers.
  18. I have to concur the 'mistery car' is a Mk. II Cortina. What made it look odd was the shadow of the Greenline Routemaster falling across the front wing.
  19. I remember when plastic surgury was a taboo subject. Today if you mention 'Botox' no one raises an eyebrow.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I met my friend in Tess Coes today and we discussed pick up times for tomorrows exhibition. While he was there he was buying a cake for daughter # 2's 18th birthday, also tomorrow. He did say at the time that he would be able to fit both in but just now he phoned to say that he and his son (of the £10 layout) will not be able to attend the exhibition, I half expected it to be so when he told me of his daughters birthday. I will still be there to help out. Time for dinner, be back later.
  21. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Kz the frost extends as far as Estuary-Land as well, its well frosty here too. Dave, when I had a loft ladder installed there was very little mess even though I had the loft insulation topped up at the same time. The builder has finished the flat roof of next doors extension, the owner decided to go for fibreglass in the end. When it comes to the front entrance hallway/porch which extends across the fronts of all the terrace he is going to merge it into my fibreglass roof which I had laid nearly thirty years ago and has needed zero maintainence since. Time to drink a muggatee, be back later.
