  1. DP2 was to all intents and purposes a class 50.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Apparently I'm an old fart. I went to Tess and Coes this morning for some essential shopping and instead of having to go to the back of the (quite short) queue I was waved straight in. It appears that Tesco's have decided that seniors do not have to wait. So now I'm stocked up for the next five days or so and I even managed to get a dozen eggs.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright dry and sunny this morning if still a bit breezy. I know its breezy because the fence panels are rattling, I'll have to find some scrap wood to make wedges out of to keep them still. It just shows how the world has become dependant on oil and other fossil fuels. I dilligently wash my hands after using the loo but its not helped by the design/layout of many public toilets. Tesco's and Sainsburys in particular have inward opening doors which means you have to grab a handle to get out. The person who last grabbed that handle could have done a #2 without washing his hands. However I've not noticed anyone not washing their hands since the Covid outbreak started.
  4. What was strange about the Tintagel incident was that the pilot had pointed the aircraft away from land before he fired the ejector seat but it managed a 180 degree turn. Of course the loss off the weight of the pilot and the bang seat almost certainly unbalanced the aircraft.
  5. For those who walk along texting.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Ploughing through Farcebook I came across this.>> http://www.thisisnorthcornwall.com/hunter-aircraft-crash.html?fbclid=IwAR30uf20VfTfxGkf_7QeYmK0JiokTSrgDe6MaVyKB0KNFxUQOtgyOFDpKUw I think Dave might possibly recall hearing of the incident. Fortunately there were no deaths or injuries as a result even though one chap was up a ladder against the side of one of the buildings struck by the aircraft. The same probably could not be said about his underwear though.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny here this morning but chilly if the way in which the dog walkers are wrapped up is anything to go by. It doesn't seem to affect the bees as they're swarming over my california lilac now that the sun is on it. Now to get on with the rest of the day.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Where did the day go? I've done very little of nothing today. A few thoughts on the idiots protesting against the lockdown in the USA. They appear to be Trump supporters so I wonder if many of them go down with the coronavirus and therefore with many of them possibly dead or on a ventilator could it affect the outcome of the presidential election?
  9. You could also try this. But I dont think third or fourth rail electrification is possible.
  10. The F stock came into use on the East London Line in 1953. Prior to that it was a mixture of District C, D and E stock. This stock was broadly similar to each other and unlike the Q stock looked a lot tidier.
  11. Did someone mention Brooklands?
  12. Morning Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Two pages of ER's to get through before I arrived here so a bit late. Aurora produced an HO slot car system about the same time as the Minic system. They only made four vehicles, a Jaguar XK140, a Mercedes sports car, an American Ford stakeside truck and a typical American gas guzzling car, the make of which escapes me. Although billed as HO scale they were slightly oversize and the sports cars were very close to 1/76 scale. The scale depended on what type of vehicles they were. The bus and coach were pretty much to 1/76 scale, the lorries and cars were about 1/72 and in one of the model railway magazines someone motorized the Airfix Land Rover from the Bloodhound kit and it sat perfectly well with the Minic cars. And not forgetting the four candles sketch (or is it fork handles?). And of course Auntie Wainright from last of the summer wine.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Gradually catching up with Farcebook, one group is still getting loads of applicants but it has eased off a little but the group has more than doubled in size. This was on Farcebook.>>
  14. The bruise will go down in a couple of days.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Running a bit short of bread and a few other things I popped down to Tess Coes after lunch. There was the normal queue but as I needed the loo I went to the door and asked if I could use the loo. The chap on the door told me I didn't have to queue! apparently the queue was going down and it wasn't neccessary to queue.
  16. Bats are quite often around our MRC clubroom but no chance to see them as the club is closed due to the corona virus.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit grey this morning but dry and no evidence of any rain during the night. Quite a debate going on about face masks. I wear a builders dust mask when I go out as it also stops pollen. I appreciate that its absolutely useless against the virus but it stops water micro-droplets which could contain viruses from getting out if I were to cough or sneeze. Talking of which, I read somewhere that 99% of germs and viruses do not survive a cough or sneeze but that may only be street talk. Now to get on with the day, be back later.
  18. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The west facing wall of next doors extension was covered in insects this evening sunning themselves with the last rays of the setting sun. They look like flies but are probably a species of solitary bee attracted by my california lilac which is just coming into flower. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
  19. I watched a sparrow hawk demolish a pigeon on my patio a few years ago. All that was left was a small pool of blood, a few feathers and the head. One of the local cats took the head (as a surprise for its owner?) and a drop of water soon washed away the blood and feathers.
