  1. Looks as if its a modified Hornby Pacer. A cab at both ends would be better.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit cool this morning with a bit of high cloud making it a bit hazy. When I woke up this morning I wasn't even sure of what day it was, for a minute I thought it was Friday then I was able to work out it was Wednesday. Wooden ships are still being built today so theres still plenty of work for caulkers. Even steel vessels can spring a leak and these have to be quickly repaired or 'caulked'. This also applies to leaking pipes so a caulker might be required on larger naval vessels. At one time when a ship was launched shipyard workers were on board ready to plug any leaks that would occur once the vessel was afloat. Most of those were apprentices as highlighted when the SS Daphne capsized on launch in 1883 with a tragic loss of life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Daphne_(1883)
  3. Do Green King still produce their special Christmas ale? When I lived in Burnham-on-Crouch it was available in my local every Christmas. Due to its AVB the landlord limited it to two pints per customer. I lived only three doors away but that was still a distance on your hands and knees.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Saw the new neighbour today but due to the lockdown unable to have a chat. That will have to wait until its over. Another diecast arrived from Hong Kong this morning, only took 2 weeks not 2 months to get here. Thats it for now, back later.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Very sorry to hear your news Andrew, at least he isn't suffering. Should be no problem, as long as you didn't do what I done and mis-typed my car registration. Now for some eyelid inspection.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Talking of towns and cities straddling Borders. I seem to recall a movie where the main character had a house that straddled the California/Nevada border. His problem was an arrest warrant was out for him in Nevada. That reminds me I have to renew my account, I haven't used the crossing in over a year and I received a notice that the account will be closed if I don't renew it.
  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Went down to Tess Coes this lunchtime and much to my surprise the queue was very short, inside within five minutes. I've done an extra big shop but I've almost certainly missed something, if I have I will just have to do without. I've ordered some more face masks though I don't expect them to arrive for a few weeks yet but at £1:30 each they're a bargain as some people are asking ten times that amount, I've seen them at £15 each! My brother who like Tony is considered highly vunerable is still going out most days despite that. I am fortunately quite fit for my age, 71 with no serious health issues and those that I have such as Arthur Itis do not make me vunerable to the virus.
  8. Mr Cadbury met Miss Rowntree on a Double Decker. It was just After Eight. They got off at Quality Street. He asked her name. 'Polo, I'm the one with the hole' she said with a Wispa. ... 'I'm Marathon, the one with the nuts' he replied. He touched her Cream Eggs, which was a Kinder Surprise for her. Then he slipped his hand into her Snickers, which made her Ripple. He fondled her Jelly Babies and she rubbed his Tic Tacs. Soon they were Heart Throbs. It was a Fab moment as she screamed in Turkish Delight. But, 3 days later, his Sherbet Dip Dab started to itch. Turns out Miss Rowntree had been with Bertie Bassett and he had Allsorts
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. On the use of 'enemy equipment' North Africa was the place where the equipment swapped sides. The jerrycan must be the best example, the 8th army began using captured ones and found that they were so superior to their own that copies were produced and eventually used by all the allies. The Germans also sought after some items of British equipment, even Rommel himself used captured armoured command vehicles, several in fact. Even in the far east theatre some Japanese equipment was used. My dad was driving a self propelled Bofors gun. One particular item for the vehicle was that it required a particular type of spark plug that was in short supply. But it was found that Japanese tanks used the same type of spark plug and where my dad was knocked out Japanese tanks were plentiful. Have to shop today so be back later.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Nothing much happened today.
  11. A man on the London Underground taught his dog to play the trumpet. He went from Barking to Tooting in an hour. Hat and coat ready.
  12. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Bright sunshine earlier has now been replaced by greyness and the wind is picking up. That brings to mind a former MP we had. The Parlimentary seat had become a very marginal marginal. A year or so before the election he had managed to get nomination for a safe seat 10 miles due east, in fact one of the safest seats for his party in the country. That was the last we saw of him until after the election he even described himself as prospective MP for S******* ***t his new seat ignoring the fact that he was still our MP. Shortly after the election a proposal was made to build a waste destructor on the eastern edge of the constituency. There was considerable objection to this including from our new MP. There was a public enquiry called and who turned up but our former MP fully supporting the building of the destructor even standing up and speaking in favour of it. The next speaker was one of the engineers who explained that given the height of the chimney (100 feet plus) the smoke and dust. would come to ground some distance away. Then a member of the audience got up and asked how far would it carry, the answer was about 10 miles. The questioner then said "Given the prevailing winds the smoke and dust would come down in W********e" The engineer agreed. W********e just happened to be the poshest part of the MP's new constituency! His face was a picture. The waste destructor was never built in the end, a change of policy nationwide to recycling made it unneccessary.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Ian A's problem with blocked drains reminded me of an incident that occured in one of the blocks of flats owned by the council I worked for. A family lived on the third or fourth floor of a 16 floor block of flats. They went away for a fortnights holiday and a day or two later someone on the upper floors flushed a disposable nappy down the 9 inch down pipe. The nappy got stuck and blocked the pipe just below their outlet. I leave it to your imagination what they came home to (sorry Flavio). The AWL will have to suffice in the meantime. Don't give HH ideas he has enough of his own as it is. He said good jokes.
  14. The technology used to build the pyramids could have been forgotten or lost. It may well be re-discovered either by accident or using modern techniques. After all the make up Roman cement was only re-discovered after nearly 2000 years.
  15. Or maybe a Studebaker?
  16. At a risk of being banned perhaps Andy Y is trying on a thong.
  17. Did I see a Mk. III Cortina slipped in there? A good look at 60's clothing fashions as well.
  18. Laughing his socks off.
  19. Well its too late now, some things once seen can't be unseen.
  20. My pension is also going up 1.7%. Which is a bigger rise than my former colleages who are still working are getting. By the way I mentione Inside Track holidays, heres a link. https://railwayholidays.com/
