  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I hope Dave is allowed out for good (or bad?) behaviour soon. Sun is shining but its still cold enough for the central heating to come into action. Tea is waiting to be drunk, be back later.
  2. Walmart customers, not to be viewed while eating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF1GLYHA_oo Apparently number 12 is a Michael Jackson look alike.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've never seen double heading on the GE either, unless you count the assisting engines to get the boat trains up Brentwood Bank. I'm trying NOT to imagine what the denizens of Walmart would be wearing under social distancing.
  4. I was under the impression that I had pre-ordered one but apparently not.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Dull but dry here today and not much sign of the winds promised, just the cold, as the central heating thermostat will confirm, its kicked in a couple of times today. Great to hear from Dave and I hope the progress continues. A real WTF moment when I read this:- https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/thousands-anti-lockdown-protesters-gather-22597555?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar&fbclid=IwAR1oelFEZqDiyCeMl343Z5AGb56fgCNa8swi4HeLQeXiwvrBxm0l8fZtZ9o Whatever planet they're from we should send them back ASAP.
  6. I can't see any tinfoil hats. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/thousands-anti-lockdown-protesters-gather-22597555?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar&fbclid=IwAR1oelFEZqDiyCeMl343Z5AGb56fgCNa8swi4HeLQeXiwvrBxm0l8fZtZ9o
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Great to see RMweb back up again even if its a bit slow. Central heating kicked in this morning it was that cold, and it seems its not going to get much warmer for a week at least. With the rain Arthur Itis is having a field day but a brace of paracetamol has put him in his place. Now time to run a bath, be back later.
  8. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had a restless night last night, or rather Arthur Itis did and he kept waking me up, he's a lot quieter this morning and I didn't have to resort to paracetamol. No hot water this morning so I had to scramble up into the loft to re-start the boiler, when I did so the central heating sprang into life. The forecast is cold but mainly dry for the bank holiday, even frost is predicted in some places. Thats it for now, be back later.
  9. It was indeed, not sure how many they had left in stock but at that price they went in less than an hour. I have notification of such sales delivered to my in-box and as soon as I saw it I tried to get one but I was too late.
  10. The Ford Kent engine was very much oversquare in its original 997 cc 105E form. With a bore of approx 80 mm and a stroke of approx 50 mm. To increase capacity only the stroke was lengthened which meant that the 1600 with a stroke of 80 mm was 'square'. The original Consul/Zephyr/Zodiac engines were also oversquare.
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Great to hear that Dave's improving and hopefully he can go home soon. Rick, I hope things sort themselves out soon. My news is not entirely unexpected but our show scheduled for the 31st. October has been officially cancelled. I was going to make a few suggestions to the exhibition manager but the problem most exhibitions face is getting a big enough footfall to make it viable bearing in mind that the number of people you can allow into the exhibition at one time is very restricted under social distancing, 40% compared to normal at most.
  12. The crossflow engines were also longer, due to their having five bearings instead of three. But they reverted to three bearings when they introduced the Fiesta as the five bearing engine would not fit transversely.
  13. Like everything else its been put back due to Covid.
  14. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been persisting down here since about three o'clock. Arthur Itis keeps telling me there's more to come. So does the weather forecast, wet, windy and cold, typical late summer bank holiday weather, now its just started hailing. Time for dinner, be back later.
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I will add my best wishes to Dave for HH to convey to him. Flavio's remarks about being retired for longer than you worked started me thinking. I've realised that I've already been collecting my works pension for a third of the time that I paid in to it, only another 25 years to go. To do that I will have to live until I'm 97. I have always been in work since I left school until I retired and if I was to live to 103 I would have been retired longer than I was in gainful employment. I known three gents who are in their 90's. One is still living independently but is very frail and his daughters call in on him on a daily basis. One has only recently (about 1 year ago) gone into a care home because of failing eyesight but the third sadly has dementia and now can't even remember his own name. Now time to run a bath, be back later.
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I have tried to trace one branch of my family back, the family from Gravesend. One would think that as son followed father into the same trade for generations it would be easier. The trade was waterman on the lower reaches of the Thames and the estuary. Sadly the records only go back to 1666, the great fire of London when all of the records were destroyed. I have made contact with a different branch of the family that have their own group on Facebook. They are distant cousins, at least six generations from a common ancestor. A few weeks ago a photo of one of their family was posted, and he was the spitting image of my brother!
  17. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Best wishes to Dave and get well soon. I used to watch Heir Hunters on mid day TV. My surname came up in one show but no relation unfortunately. There was one chap who died intestate and they couldn't find any relatives despite his estate exceeding a million pounds.
