  1. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. After a morning of pottering about there's still nothing much been done in the garden. Now tea is being drunk so not much of anything will get done now.
  2. As the only change is the cab ends its quite possible that they have separate moulds for the two basic versions with modifications made if a slightly different version is required. AFAIK the tube stock models have only had cosmetic changes such as livery without any alterations to the moulds. It is more common for a model to be changed when the existing moulds wear out when the opportunity to upgrade and improve the details is often taken.
  3. The trailer and NDM (none driving motor) cars are externally identical across all three types. The driving cars have different ends, the 1938 units and the 59/62 units. The 59/62 units although basically identical have different marker lights. Several changes have been made to the IoW 1938 units over the years principally the sealing of the end emergency doors and the marker lights. All of these changes have been accommodated on the static models produced.
  4. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I think ID's remarks about alien invasions were typed with his tongue firmly in cheek, either that or he was wearing said tinfoil hat. Given the enormous size of the universe the chance of another intelligent life form out there somewhere is quite high but the chances of locating and contacting them are negligible. Not only distance but time, it is quite possible for a star with a planetary system to be formed, intelligent life to develop and then for the star to age and go supernova destroying all traces of that intelligent life form before our sun and solar system came into being. And the same could happen after we are all interstellar dust. One final thought about 'alien invasion', if an intelligent alien life form were ever to discover planet earth it it might regard it in the same way as we look at a wasps nest and wipe us out as a pest to be gotten rid off.
  5. Here's to the next 1,000 pages.

  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just watched the cricket and a cracking end and I've got to watch the F1 highlights, a few surprises there. Foxes, as ID said they help keep some of the carriers of some very nasty diseases down. A few years ago there was a bad rat problem in parts of the town, then the foxes arrived and no more rats, not visible ones anyway. The rats seem to like railway lines, when I lived in Romford my garden backed on to the railway embankment. One day I heard a squealing coming from the embankment, it was a very large dog fox with a rat in its mouth walking along the embankment, the squealing was coming from the rat.
  8. If there was ever a need for a replacing bridge that is it. A bridge avoiding both the rail and river crossings would not be difficult.
  9. I noticed that some weight markings are in Kilograms and there's something Germanic about the writing. Marklin perhaps?
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Great to hear Tony's getting better and hopefully he'll be up and around soon. Baz, I haven't played cricket for years so I'm not sure what the rules are now in the circumstances you described with regard to runs scored or is it just one unhappy batsman. You still see a few numpties going unmasked, as Flavio said, if you have a medical condition that means you cannot wear a mask should you be out at all?
  11. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Need to pop down to the big orange shed tomorrow for a few bits and pieces, though I might put it off until Monday when it should be quieter. Now to finish ploughing through Farcebook, be back later.
  12. That is as translated from a two line note by the British civil servants.
  13. For that matter how many Ratio GWR 4 wheelers have been finished in liveries that they never carried in real life.
  14. I understood from a couple of old enginemen that the shovel was not to be used for the purpose described above. The reason being the shovel was used for frying bacon and eggs. Usual practice was to use some newspaper and then into the firebox with it.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. No gardening done today, its just too cold. Glad to hear Tony's back home. Speaking of food my dinners ready so I'll be back later.
  16. You can use either end of a crayon.
  17. I seem to remember, in an old BTF film a diesel or electric locomotive equipped with an Elsan. Deltic prototype perhaps?
  18. And no thought of checking that everyone on the train was OK.
  19. 4 degrees C. is a tad chilly.
