  1. I have a device inherited from my parents that has opened every lid that I've used it on. Its a simple straight flat bar with a hook at one end and a sliding ratchet. I just hook it over the lid, pull the ratchet so that it grips the lid and then it acts as a lever.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The parcel I was expecting arrived about 40 minutes ago so I can now get a few things done. Mr. or more likely Mrs. Fox has been digging holes in the back garden overnight, Two in the so-called lawn, in the bald areas to be re-seeded so just a case of filling them in but starting with a few bits of broken tile/glass. The third may be a bit of a problem as its between the new shed and a shrub and is rather large and this I suspect is in preparation as a nursery den so this is going to be filled with the broken tile/glass first. I take paracetamol if Arthur Itis is bothering me but I will take co-codamol of an evening because the effects last longer though I find it slower acting than paracetamol. I try to take as little of any medicine as possible so I only use either sparingly. I have exactly the same problem and I just thought it was Arthur Itis. I'll have to have it checked out. He can join his mate Chump and have a syrup stitched in as well.
  3. Take a look at some 1:1 scale items. I have seen all sorts of bits used as loads many removed from things such as old telephones and household items. I have even used the internals from a 'pull-and-go' toy truck suitably painted.
  4. I think he intended to post on Early Risers.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Got to wait in for a parcel tomorrow. DHL have informed me that its going to be delivered but can't give a time. I had to pay duty but I thought that I might have to but at least they haven't added any fees as Parcel farce do. With the return of the damp weather Arthur Itis is having a field day so the co-codamol has been deployed.
  6. I've driven around the M25 in lane one and most of the time I have the lane to myself.
  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A quick trip down to Tess Coes this afternoon was quite rewarding. Firstly I managed to snaffle the one remaining bread pudding. Then I had a look around the 'broken boxes' reduced to clear shelves where I acquired a Papermate pen at half price and a couple of packs of printing paper at a fraction of the usual price. If that was Australian they'd have the barbie going and passing the tinnies round.
  8. Brilliant! Is the turkey going to be cremated or interred?
  9. And happy birthday to Ian (Roundhouse).
  10. Happy birthday John (Combe Barton).
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The lesser spotted glass and bottle bin wagon has just gone past so no one is now sleeping. The regulations here is that bin bags must be out ready by 07:30 on the day of collection so its OK to put them out just after midnight. Despite the large number of urban foxes around here they do not break into the waste bags very often. The reason why became obvious during lockdown when they did start breaking into bin bags. Just down the road is a kebab shop that shut down during lockdown but as soon as it re-opened the foxes left the bags alone. There is one marsupial, I can't remember which one. If it is pursued by a predator will dump its baby to distract the predator and make its escape, nice.
  12. I had that happen a couple of years ago coming on to the A1. It was in very heavy traffic and I was right behind the idiot. Luckily there was a gap in the traffic that appeared at just the right time and I was able to slip in to it.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just remembered to put the bin bags out, saves a rush in the morning. And so to bed, goodnight all.
  14. Here in Essex the Motorways go around one side (M25/M11) but don't cross the county though there was a proposed M12 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M12_motorway_(Great_Britain)
  15. Its 'A nostalgic look at Liverpool trams 1945-1957' by Steve Palmer & Brian Martin. I've checked it but there seems to be no reference to the bus services. The tram service was route number 3 but sadly no mention of bus services.
  16. Two weeks! My hot water failed on Thursday morning. The Engineer made an appointment to fix the system filter (which was leaking badly) but when he did so he discovered the boiler itself was corroded and needed replacement. This was done this morning, six days, pretty good going. Every single tap and the loo are fitted with isolator valves. There is a stopcock on the boiler but the central heating had to be drained down before any work proceeded.
  17. If your easily offended look away now.
  18. Snap! but mine was in the loft so making a mess didn't matter so much. And the boiler installation expert was Michael.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The gas engineer has been, installed the new boiler so now I have heat and hot water. A few things to do then its a long warm soak in the bath.
  20. But plenty of open water, perhaps they're worried about the combination of both, (Motorways and open water that is).
  21. I have a book on the Liverpool tramways but I can't access it at the moment. When I do I'll have to check to see if there's any information.
  22. And some of them covered long distances and covered large areas.
  23. They weren't called crumpet catchers for nothing.
  24. The chances of getting caught navigating a small vessel on the open sea while under the influence must be very slim unless you have an accident and maybe not even then..
