  1. And just as well it wasn't pointing down.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Farcebook have been up to their usual tricks. I have about 150 groups on there and they list them in their normal sh!t order. Despite that once you get used to it you can locate a group quite easily. But Farcebook as is their wont try to make things difficult have shuffled the pack and put them in a different sh!t order, rant over. Now watching the repair shop.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I joined CAMRA many years ago (1970's?). But there were several pubs within walking distance that served real ale and I thought why bother so I let my membership lapse. Sun is shining at the moment but I'm not intending to go out anyway. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.
  4. Looks like thats the one:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytrichum_juniperinum
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The Zoom meeting went rather well. Of the six of us one initially had problems opening up but an e-mail showing what to do soon sorted that out and another had a slight problem due to narrow band width. So we're all set for our committee meeting tomorrow. We did discuss those members who were not on the internet and it came to light that many members were unaware that they could use a tablet or mobile phone to connect with the internet. They have these devices so perhaps we can connect with most of the membership. Sempervivum?
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just set up for a Zoom meeting. We are having a test later this evening so I've checked out the speakers, microphone and camera (nothing embarrassing in the background) and all seems to be OK. We intend to have a Zoom committee meeting later this week in advance of the AGM which is not due until March so hopefully by then we can have a real meeting. Tea has brewed so I'll be back later.
  7. Thanks to Stationmaster for reminding us, happy anniversary to Rick and Sharon.
  8. The 'mystery' Regent III has a 1949 Cambridge registration. The final pic is not a Bedford but an Austin CX with the post 1948 grill.
  9. Re the buses that are captioned Southend. The buses in both photographs look very much like those operated by Southend Corporation, same types and livery. The Lowlander as mentioned and the Daimler Fleetline in picture three. A possible answer is that Southend hired out some Lowlanders and other types to Alder Valley after they had been withdrawn in the early 70's and these are the buses that appear in the pics. It would also explain why they retained the corporation crest.
  10. These are from another thread and I agree with the comments.
  11. Morning all from a wet and soggy Estuary-Land. Congratulations to Peter BB and Simon G and their respective spouses. At least its stopped raining and the sun is actually shining but everything is still sopping wet so no chance of the G word today. A bit of luck with the handle on the catch to the ex coal shed. I've discovered how it is attached. It has the appearance of being a solid one piece unit but I spotted where the screw holding it on to the catch is, it was covered by a flush fitting plastic plug only about 5 mm in diameter. Only problem is removing the plug as its a very tight fit. If I can get the handle off I might not need the special drill bits or the brute force and ignorance to remove the catch unit.
  12. Not so much fishy as blatant profiteering.
  13. The first photograph was taken at Southend Airport. Of interest is the bus in the background is one of Southend's short-lived Leyland/Albion Lowlanders. These were brand new in 1965/66 but were all gone by 1971. In fact Southend's first low height double deckers was a batch of AEC Bridgemasters delivered in 1960. They were also withdrawn by 1971 but after the newer Lowlanders. They were replaced by low height Daimler Fleetlines.
  14. The Seddon (pic # 7) is not in Southend. Note the tracks in the road and the rail tankers and locomotive poking its nose out. I thought at first Weymouth but it could be a Scottish ferry port.
  15. Afternoon/evening from Estuary-Land. Nothing done in the way of drilling today. Firstly I couldn't find the drill bits. They turned out to be under my nose all the time. The reason was that they are contained in a machined aluminium case, almost identical to the one containing my Dremel. I must have passed it by a few times assuming it was the Dremel, only when I spotted the Dremel I realised my mistake. So I went to get my drill only to find that the battery needed charging . The battery is on charge now and the bits are where I know where to find them.
