  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Like Chris I have a Zoom meeting this evening, to try to sort out an AGM using the same. GDB you will have very few if any hedgehogs around if foxes are present as they are one of the main predators of hedgehogs. That reminded me of the three Yorkshiremen sketch; "When I was a lad we couldn't afford a pram so I was put in the wheelbarrow....."
  2. Are you sure that was the engineer? Most American locomotives are right hand drive. It still doesn't alter the fact that none of the three trucks should have crossed.
  3. Are you sure you counted them and its not 55 or 57?
  4. British car makers produced some very good 'Big fours' that could give the contemporary sixes a run for their money. The Standard Vanguard, Austin A70 and Rover. All about 2-2.5 litres. All three were adapted to a diesel version and all three remained in production for many years. (Even if not in the UK).
  5. That was a Buick engine originally, But the Daimler V8's were reckoned to be the better engine.
  6. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Spent half an hour at the G word this afternoon, that required a couple of hours eyelid inspection afterwards. No chance of hedgehogs around here I'm afraid, too many busy roads and foxes. Apparently the local Tess Coes will have bread pudding available tomorrow so thats another trip out. Thats all for now, be back later.
  7. As I stated above, the engineer could not see anything on that side of the locomotive. The truck that the locomotive hit should not have crossed, its as simple as that.
  8. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been to Tess Coes for a few bits now for the G word while the sun is shining.
  9. On most American locomotives the engineer sits on the right and as the locomotive was running hood first he (or she) would not be able to see the trucks. The conductor on the forward steps was signalling to someone in the cab who was likely passing it on to the engineer. Add to that the fact that a heavy train takes some stopping even at walking pace.
  10. I'd completely forgotten that the 'new' Spitting Image has started. If this is anything to go by I will have to tune in. I hope its not too political for RMweb but the portrayal of Cummins as an baby eating alien is brilliant.
  11. I had a Corsair V4, The fuel pump was operated by a rocking lever worked off of one of the cams. The lever used to either wear or bend and the fuel supply diminished accordingly. I was told to fit a V6 fuel pump, this I did and there was never any more trouble. If anything the V4's were even worse than the V6's because they were out of balance. The ideal angle on a V4 or V8 to balance the engine is 90 degrees, with a V6 its 60 degrees. The Essex engine was 60 degrees. Fords did fit a balance shaft to the V4's but as the engine wore it became less effective. The Transit was designed around the V4 engine and many owners, especially of motor caravans fitted the V6 (with the diesel version snout) which not only gave more power and reliability it improved fuel consumption as the engine was not so stressed.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. It seems like Guy Fawkes has already begun, there were some fireworks going off locally on Saturday night. Tess Coes have only just put fireworks on sale, perhaps the two are connected. A little snippet, Guy Fawkes himself cheated his torturers, he like his fellow plotters was sentenced to be hung drawn and quartered. As the rope was placed around his neck he leapt from the scaffold breaking his neck. Thats it for now, be back later.
  13. I was going to suggest a torq, but you have sorted out the problem.
  14. Afternoon/Evening all from Estuary-Land. No visit to town today, by the time I'd sorted a few things out it was too late. I might hobble down later in the week, trying to make my way around the building sites. Must remember to turn the gogglebox on at nine for the political thriller Roadkill.
  15. And reliability, being stuck in the middle of nowhere on a freezing night with a broken down car is no joke at 72.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I will be attempting to find a parking place in town today. The shops I want to visit are close together but the nearest car park is now part of a building site. I only support local charities, the local hospice and the Herts & Essex air ambulance, any others such as the PDSA get donations other than cash. Time for another muggatee, be back later.
