  1. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Popped down to Tess Coes for a few bits and found in the magazine section a bookazine on the Col. Stevens light railways. This was duly purchased and will be studied over the next few days. Now to check the use by dates to find out whats for dinner.
  2. Off to a good start? https://www.gpfans.com/en/articles/60095/verstappen-and-leclerc-strike-disaster-on-lap-one-in-sakhir-gp/
  3. My job before I retired was very stressful and I expected my BP to go down after I retired but they stayed the same.
  4. I can see Hamilton managing a team once he hangs up his driving gloves, but which one?
  5. A lot of places without an indigenous motor industry have a high import duty on complete cars. This is the reason so many older cars survive, its too expensive to replace them. Many are delivered CKD for local assembly. Usually only one factory so rival makes can be assembled alongside one another. In Malta in the 70's Minis and Mk. I & II Escorts came off the production line side by side.
  6. I was surprised to learn that a mug of tea drunk just before a BP test can raise the readings by a considerable amount. In the end my high BP readings turned out to be 'white coat syndrome', still high-ish at 115/60 average but not too worrying. Some of these BP drugs have unpleasant side effects, some of my ailments are down to taking Ramipril for a few years. Its Ramopril thats responsible for my brothers kidney failure.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The sore foot kept me awake for most of the night, the previous few nights it hasn't bothered me but made up for it last night. It might be that I tried a different dressing, back to the usual dressing now and its less sore. If you hover the cursor above the left top corner there should pop up a four pointed arrow (N-S-E-W). Sweep that down into the box and it should highlight the box. Then just hit the delete button and it should be gone. I found the ads on here so invasive and 'in your face' that I turned the ad blocker on. One thing that niggled me was as I scrolled down the page the ads were still loading and sometimes as I clicked on an item the page would jump and I would find myself looking at something other than I wanted to.
  8. YEAH I KNOW IT'S OLD ;-( First Christmas Joke Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. 'In honour of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.' The Englishman fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It's a candle', he said. 'You may pass through the pearly gates' Saint Peter said. The Scotsman reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.' Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'. The Irishman started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, 'And just what do those symbolize?' The paddy replied, 'These are Carols.' And So The Christmas Season Begins.......
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Nearly forgot dinner this evening, just not feeling hungry, just as well as I could do with losing a bit of weight. Very well actually. I pan fried it as recommended in a bit of olive oil for 10-12 minutes turning it frequently to ensure that it was 'sealed'. I then gave it a quick blast of microwaves to make sure it was cooked through. I must have done it right because it melted in the mouth. FYI it looks like and tastes similar to beef only a bit more 'gamey'. I already have another steak in the fridge ready for Christmas day. Much preferable to turkey IMHO and no left overs to eat into new year.
  10. The reason I thought the Prefect was an early model is that it appears to have the side opening bonnet that was continued with the Anglia and Popular. On the Prefect this was replaced by the alligator bonnet in 1939 but still with the separate headlamps. The Prefect headlamps were not incorporated into the wings until 1948/49.
  11. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has started banging on his drum so I think I'll take a couple of co-codamols and take a lie down.
  12. Where's the 'Green with envy' button?
  13. Here's another pic of the 7W roadster with a couple of others with the hood up.
  14. Examining the photograph under magnification it appears there is a sign board in front of the drivers door of the car on the left, you can just make out the upright and the base. Here is a picture of a preserved example. The other car is the normal 4 door. Post war the running boards were dropped which means both are pre-war.
  15. The car on the left is a Ford 7W, which became the Prefect in 1938/39. The wheels are the identifier that it is a Ford, and the bumpers and the shape of the rear side panels to accommodate the hood show that it is a 7W. The Ford Prefect in front of it is possibly only a year younger but is almost certainly a pre-war model with the bonnet and front wings that were changed to a different style in 1939.
  16. A few rare ones there, Ford 7W roadster, very early (pre-war) Prefect, unidentifiable car and a van that is possibly ex military going by the size of the wheels tyres.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit of frist and mog this morning. Looks as if its going to be a grey day but predicted to stay dry. By coincidence the EU is taking steps to close many of these tax loopholes applying to all member states. Oh, we're no longer a member.
