  1. A few more Polish cake recipes here:- https://www.thespruceeats.com/top-polish-dessert-recipes-1136991
  2. We have a large Polish community hereabouts and many Polish treats are available, cake enthusiasts should try szarlotka or kolaczki.
  3. And to think I turned down a CX estate that was on offer for £500. That was about 1985 though and it was a petrol engined version.
  4. They were bought up by Bachmann but all they got was the name (Classix) and a warehouse of unsold models. The original owner/founder of Classix passed away suddenly and the firm just seemed to have disappeared except for the name that Bachmann acquired.
  5. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The sore foot kept me awake last night until the early hours which resulted in my oversleeping. I applied a new dressing this morning with the aid of a small mirror which has much improved matters. I will have to go out today as the bathroom shower hose has sprung a leak so a replacement will be sought, they stock them in Tess Coes so shouldn't be a problem.
  6. On the later ones they fitted a conventional bonnet.
  7. Do they have any coats to wear?
  8. Production continued in India as the Standard Herald. They got rid of the tail fins and most were 4 door. They also had a coil sprung rigid back axle on the later models. https://gomechanic.in/blog/standard-herald-history/
  9. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Not done a lot today, where has the time gone? Some of it was spent in reading the book that the postie delivered this lunchtime. https://www.basicbooks.com/titles/brian-fagan/the-little-ice-age/9781541618572/ Quite interesting and one graph (average temperature) illustrates the effects of industrialisation by suddenly disappearing off of the top of the page. Teas brewed and now to tackle Farcebook.
  10. Mashing a pot of tea usually results in biscuit evaporation in this house. Time to put the kettle on.
  11. I doubt any car thats sunk to the bottom of the ocean will be of any use after twelve months, unless your in the iron oxide business.
  12. Start price was £3, E-bay madness indeed.
  13. No ones complained yet about them being nothing like NER stock. I seem to recall someone on the Hatton's generic coaches thread bleating on about it ad nauseum. In fact he became a right PITA.
  14. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis is keeping quiet at the moment and long may he do so. However the sore foot is trying to make up for it. One of the problems is that the part of the foot affected, on the side of the foot where it goes into the instep, I cannot see properly. I have purchased a mirror as an aid in applying the dressing and will be trying it out when I change the dressing shortly. The same when I lived in Burnham-on-Crouch but it was only a short distance before the effect was no longer felt. I lived midway between the railway station and the river and the micro climate stretched as far as the railway station. Beyond that it was full on winter and those country roads could be treacherous. I remember one very frosty morning seeing about a dozen accidents on the journey to work. There were four between Burnham and Wickford but the other eight were all on the A127 four on each carriageway and all opposite each other. One I did witness in front of me where two cars collided because the drivers were rubbernecking the accident in the other carriageway. I carefully drove round them and on my way. At my secondary school a third of the teachers were Welsh and the majority were from South Wales. I was told that it was because of the preponderance of grammar schools in the valley's. Shouldn't have stood in front of that cannon.
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. We had snow last night, not much however as much of the whiteness is frost. I have never used a slide rule and its a bit late for me to start now. I have never had problems with mental arithmetic, I have a talent for it. When I was at junior school one of the teachers thought I was copying other pupils work as I had not put my calculations in writing. He then put me on to a desk of my own and gave me a new set of sums which I completed in double quick time. I think he was impressed because he never questioned my answers again except for the odd incorrect one. Its only in the last few years that I have realised than I am autistic, this manifested itself in the mathematical talent mentioned above. The sore foot kept me awake last night so a bit more eyelid inspection is required, be back later.
  16. Interesting history. http://hazelcar.co.uk/index.htm?fbclid=IwAR0Dee_b0j2I2PhXeZmu7E2NEGu5DdsRSl0yks7iu8D9__tVbf4OXm0CNvU
  17. Evening all from Estuary-Land. About an hour ago I had a chat with my niece. My brother usually books a table ay a local pub or restaurant for his Christmas dinner. This year of course he was unable to do so so he went and got a turkey and cooked it himself. The problem is that he didn't cook it properly and he's now gone down with food poisoning. Ridiculous thing is that as there's only him and his wife a turkey crown would have been more than enough. Fortunately he's now on the mend.
  18. The gas engineer has called and restarted the boiler and the house is now warming up. I must not have the hot and cold on at the same time and then flush the loo .
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I had just run my bath this morning and I was rinsing my hair using the shower attachment when the water ran cold. The new boiler had switched off. Its almost certainly a drop in pressure but I couldn't locate the valve and the controls on the new boiler are difficult for me to reach so I've called the installer and he's coming round to fix it this afternoon.
  20. Did Hornby copy Hattons? or did they come up with the same idea simultaneously? By what has been said Hornby had something in the pipeline when the Hattons announcement was made. Likewise the Terrier, if you watched the TV program about 18 months ago you will know that the Hornby Terrier was already being worked on when Rails announced their Terrier. Personally I prefer Hornby's way of only announcing some models just before they hit the shelves rather than leaving people guessing as to when it should arrive. Just see how many models slated for delivery in 2020 that haven't arrived yet (And yes that might include some Hornby models.)
  21. Talking of Lada's, I wonder how many Riva 4X4's are left on British roads?
