  1. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I know its a bit late in the afternoon but where did it go? Congratulations Polybear on your weight loss, jealous, moi? Yes I am as I have lost some weight but only about four or five Kg. I put it down to not going to Tess Coes on a daily basis and not being tempted by all those fattening things that make the scales scream for mercy. My BMI which I checked only yesterday is 29.7, still far to high but heading in the right direction.
  2. I notice that the car stopped once it had backed out. Probably the usual scenario of an elderly driver and an automatic gearbox.
  3. In a couple of weeks time I should have a layout. Someone mentioned on Farcebook that he had a couple of micro layouts for sale, he also mentioned that he lives in Southend. He sent me details and I will be going to view the layouts when lockdown allows. I've more or less selected which one and already planning a few minor changes. Both are based 'Somewhere in East London' which will remain.
  4. Here. 5. Not difficult at all, as I said the end is a separate piece in clear plastic so should be readily removable. I won't know for certain though until I get one to check it out.
  6. The alternative is to replace the end of the Hornby one. This is a one piece clear plastic moulding so it shouldn't be difficult. I am looking into replacing it with clear plasticard or acrylic with an overlay either etched or laser cut.
  7. I don't think air bags are really necessary. They came about because Americans didn't like using seat belts so someone in America came up with the idea of air bags. The irony is they don't provide full protection unless you are belted in. Some terrible injuries have been caused by air bags going off unexpectedly.
  8. I want a GER brake third. The end windows on the Hattons coach are more or less the right size and shape but the duckets are wrong. The Hornby offering has duckets that are right for the GER but the end windows are completely wrong.
  9. I'd go for the darkest shade though as the coach weathered the shade would probably lighten.
  10. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning, well it was until some high cloud sat between the sun and yours truly. In a couple of weeks time I should have a model railway layout. Only a small 'micro' one as it will need to fit in the car. The chap selling it asked on Facebook what was the best way to sell it and another layout he had for sale, he also mentioned that he lives in Southend. I contacted him and in a couple of weeks time I will be going to look at the layout social distancing and weather permitting. Muggatee awaits, be back later.
  11. There was also a proposed open trailer and tank trailer but they never left the drawing board. There is a few seconds of film of a roadrailer train travelling through Barking. Hauled by a class 24 or 25 the train consisted of an ex-LMS GUV and a pair of roadrailer vans no doubt under test.
  12. Southern Railway mock up of a streamlined Schools class.
  13. The trailers were available separately, IIRC there were two in a pack.
  14. Springfield, Chelmsford yesterday 03/03/2021. https://www.facebook.com/werichards/videos/10161145411484782 Fortunately no serious injuries.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just had an excellent Zoom presentation by one of our (SEERS) members who now resides in Edinburgh. He is heavily involved with miniature railways and runs his own 7 1/4 inch gauge locomotive, very interesting. Now to catch up with Farcebook.
  16. But the diesel electric 08's were being delivered.
  17. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I heard the sirens going about twenty minutes ago but when I went to the front of the house just now I could see the flashing blue lights. It was an ambulance and paramedic and police cars outside. I spoke to my neighbour and he told me that his son had been attacked with a knife. He'd managed to make it to my neighbour who dialled 999. He has a stab wound in the neck, fortunately not serious enough to cause any worries (he managed to make the half mile or so to his fathers house). The incident happened in a small park that is sometimes a hangout for drug addicts.
  18. Its the Peco Roadrailer kit, it says so in the description. A bit of a bargain at £7:50 IF all the parts are there.
  19. Probably the engines were replaced as they do not comply with current emission regulations.
  20. When it comes to tea I still prefer to make it in a pot, even though I am the only one to drink it. I still use leaf tea, I have a glass teapot with an infuser. As soon as the colour looks right I just remove the infuser and the tea will not stew. The used leaves are dried then go into the kitchen caddy on the way to the compost heap. If you have to dip a tea bag into a cup or mug its best to remove it before adding the milk. If the used tea bag is contaminated with milk it should not go in the compost.
  21. I read it as the Paxman units being replaced by the RR engines.
  22. Putting them on? This is Halewood LIVERPOOL.
  23. I too have sciatica, the last time was as I was rolling out of bed. The only thing I could do was to roll carefully back into bed and very slowly get out again. One thing I do know is that the pain from kidney stones is different to sciatica.
  24. I've always wanted to go to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Problem I had was it was always on the same weekend as my model railway clubs annual exhibition. The date of the model railway exhibition has now been moved so I was intending to visit the festival. That was until I saw the ticket prices. The cheapest entry for the Saturday is £82! While I appreciate that putting on such a show costs (a lot of) money I'm not spending that amount of money.
