  1. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Congratulations Dom, Hope that mum and baby are well. Nearly finished the book that I found yesterday, interesting story with a twist at the end but still not at the end yet. Now back to the reading.
  2. I haven't checked mine yet but I do know its not the £180 million on the Euro lottery.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I hope all goes well for Elise and Dom with their new addition to the family. Woke up again this morning with stiff joints but nothing was hurting and they all soon freed up. This has only happened since I had my jab, has anyone experienced anything similar? At the time the railway was built Harold Hill was partly a country estate and partly agricultural. When the line was built even Romford station was on the edge of the built up area.
  4. They must be working as I understand that they now generate more than half of the electricity we use.
  5. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Only a quarter of the bread pudding has been consumed so far, just not feeling hungry, no surprise really after a beef hot pot for dinner. Because the Harold Hill estate at one time had a reputation and many residents claimed to be from Harold Wood. It was also the site of Londons first airport.
  6. All this talk of sausages and saveloys is making me hungry so I'm going to see what the sell-by-date lottery shows up. If this was Germany it could be wurst. Hat, coat and I'm gone.
  7. They are facing into the prevailing winds which are westerly.
  8. That is the speed to which heavy goods vehicles are limited, 90 kph in metric.
  9. They come in other colours too including a rather nice cream.
  10. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I was sorting out some old papers this afternoon when I came across a paperback crime novel. When I started reading it there was nothing to make me think that I had already read it and even after reading a few chapters I'm still certain I haven't read it. I do chips in my air fryer with just a sprinkling of oil or I use oven chips. Tess Coes do excellent oven chips still with skins on. You can usually find them alongside the baked potatoes. Speaking of Tess Coes, my local branch had a batch of bread pudding this afternoon, one is now in the fridge but as yet intact. When it came to my pension entitlement I found that by calculating how much my net income would be it turned out to £2 per month more on pension than if I was working.
  11. I'd never heard of mushy peas with fish & chips until I visited Blackpool (about 1968).
  12. Interesting point about the 70 mph limit. As stated it was nothing to do with Jack Sears drive. IIRC it was to conserve fuel due to one of the many Middle East crisis's.
  13. Best with peas pudding and chips.
  14. I've got the same problem.
  15. Apparently *salami schemes were quite common in the eighties. It was only when a couple were discovered that the banks checked and found dozens of them. There wasn't many prosecutions, most of the banks just dismissed the culprit and pocketed the money themselves. *So called because salami comes in very thin slices. IIRC the film about it was based on fact.
  16. With a cab at each end? Then it becomes a class 58.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Dry but chilly this morning but not going anywhere at the moment. Have you considered getting a walker? You may recall that I had mine when I met you three years ago (Next Wednesday in fact, the 'birthday boy' becomes a teenager!). I have found that taking the weight off of the joints helps a lot. Its known as a salami fiddle. It apparently happened to several banks. The one I heard of was where the customers were listed alphabetically. An employee of the bank opened an account with the name Zwiller and set things up to transfer all the fractions to the last account. Apparently he made thousands over a couple of years and was only found out when someone with the name of Zwolle took out an account and was honest enough to query the money going into their account.
  18. More on the car crashing into Aldi. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-essex-56286152
  19. I've got a few stashed away, somewhere.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Tempus fugit, where has the day gone? Time seems to go quicker and quicker or am I getting slower and slower.
  21. A twin cabbed 20, now there's a thought.
