  1. Liverpool is largely built on sandstone. A few years ago the old southern terminus of the Liverpool Overhead Railway which was in a tunnel started to collapse. Houses above it had to be evacuated. The old station had been used as a garage and quite a few cars are still trapped down there. https://jalopnik.com/a-collapsed-old-railway-tunnel-hides-these-rare-cars-un-1495585003
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I try to recycle as much as I can and despite my local council having a long list of things that can be recycled if I have any doubts it goes in to the landfill. Despite that when the nearby secondary school opened after lockdown the amount of litter on the streets increased considerably.
  3. Your not in a mining area are you? Mind you sandstone is quite easy to dig and there could be some man made voids some more than a thousand years old.
  4. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I was sorting out the pile of magazines when I came across a copy of the GW Journal. That put paid to any more sorting as I sat down to read it. I've decided on chicken tandori for tonights dinner, toad in the hole can wait until tomorrow.
  5. When I first moved into this house more than thirty years ago the back garden had a distinct dip in it. It turned out that it was the site of a pond. Fortunately there had been drainage of a sort as the road alongside had been dug out to ease a gradient and water didn't accumulate. I added topsoil to level it off, up to a foot deep in places. Despite that in some places the clay is only a couple of inches below the surface. I used to make my own potting compost, stable manure, dead leaves, a few grass cuttings, tea leaves and ashes from the bonfire. To add lime I put in eggshells and being a hard water area limescale from the kettle.
  6. This took far to long. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/breaking-members-shrewsbury-24-win-23778204#source=push
  7. Just had a phone call "All BT lines will be disconnected in the next few hours." An obvious scam as I'm not even with BT. I dialled 1471 to be told the call was from a network "That does not transmit numbers." Its about time that if a network doesn't transmit numbers the whole network is blocked.
  8. Apart from the 4 wheel all third none seem a match for the LT&S stock.
  9. Essex clay is far worse, sets like concrete when its dry and sticks to everything when its wet.
  10. One very lucky tourist. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/woman-takes-holiday-photo-unaware-23775563
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis is a bit quieter this morning but a couple of paracetamol have put him in his place. News from across the pond, yet another mass shooting, this time in Boulder Colorado. As usual nothing much will be done due to American gun culture. The operative word is culture, it will require a massive change in culture before anything is done. Still sorting out the old magazines, a lot of them are still on the floor where they fell. Thats it for now, be back later.
  12. The chicken tandori is a ding dinner. They come from Tess Coes (low calorie meals).
  13. Here it is. This is the shortened version.
  14. Breaking news, the government are going to ban all overseas travel.
  15. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The use-by-date lottery gave me steak pie and chips with (tinned) broad beans this evening and has now left me with a quandary. Will tomorrows dinner be toad-in-the-hole or chicken tandori? decisions, decisions. Tea is brewing so I'll be back later.
  16. Great the parallel running with the vintage electric unit.
  17. I had an ash stump in my garden. I didn't dig it out, a vixen did that to make a maternity earth. It did pong until a few days after she and her cubs had vacated the earth.
  18. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Joints are still aching, it can't be the weather or can it? Anyway I 'Yellow carded' it this morning. The doctor on the Jeremy Vine show this lunchtime was speaking about what some people have described as symptoms of having the jab, one even claimed an increase in flatulence! . One other chap woke up with a black eye, his wife had a problem convincing people that she wasn't responsible. The doctor explained that it could be something to do with platelets and the reported blood clots. I've been looking at the cost of clear Perspex or acrylic for the layout. Not much change out of £50 for a small layout, ouch.
