  1. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The boiler stopped again, same problem, needed topping up. I still can't find any sign of a leak. The one in the hallway that seemed to be coming from the bedroom radiator was the result of my being slow in shutting off the bleed valve and the one in the utility room turned out to be a leaky container of windscreen wash. The dampness has gone but there's still a mark on the carpet. Glad to see Andrew C. back and his problem builder sorted. I think the repayment might have been prompted by the fact that the Inland Revenue takes an interest in such cases. Nipped down to Tess Coes for bread and milk, they had a new temptation in the bakery department. Tear and share cinnamon bun with a thick creamy topping. I had to try one but theres still some left for this evening.
  2. Litter louts. https://www.gpfans.com/en/articles/63237/alonso-f1-return-wrecked-by-a-sandwich-wrapper-reveal-alpine/
  3. I am 72 and I dread the possibility of losing my licence as although I live in a large town what there is with regard to public transport is not that great, even doing my shopping will be difficult without the car. I live on my own so there is no one else to drive me around. My brother has lost his licence due to a stroke (loss of peripheral vision) but he lives in Greater London where public transport is pretty good.
  4. Apologies if someone's already mentioned it :- https://www.seenit.co.uk/new-yesterday-series-goes-behind-the-scenes-of-brooklands-museum/ Starts 8pm tomorrow (Tuesday).
  5. Universal Hobbies produced a Model of the wartime Massey-Harris tractor, as a keyring, unfortunately it is very rare. It was very near to 1/76 scale similar to their Fordson Major model which was 1/76 scale.
  6. Hip replacements have come to a virtual halt due to Covid, even if you were going private. Once this is over there will still be the backlog of operations to clear which could take years.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has not been as noisy this morning keeping to his usual domain my hips. A couple of Nurofen have seen him off for now. My hips are not deemed bad enough to require replacement so those who's hip replacements have been delayed must be in far greater pain. I see on the news this morning that the ship stuck in the Suez Canal has got moving again. The canal has been widened and deepened over the years but even in the lakes such large vessels have to keep to the marked channels. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
  8. The Oxford David Brown airfield tractor is also suitable. They were based on a pre-war agricultural tractor and many were sold off to farmers after the war.
  9. Langley also do a pre-war Fordson.
  10. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I was going to do a bit of the G word this afternoon but as its still blowing a hooley it can wait until later. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.
  11. The DAF could also go as fast backwards as forwards.
  12. The Dingo had a five speed gearbox with a reverse gear in the transfer box. The gearbox was of the pre-selector Wilson type. The drivers seat and controls were at an angle of 45 degrees. When my dad was driving one in Yorkshire c. 1940 one of the tracks came off. The carrier spun around and demolished a dry stone wall. Wasn't the CVT gearbox developed from the DAF gearbox? or at least operate on the same principle. The DAF's were noted for carrying on accelerating when you lifted your foot of the throttle.

  14. Its a pity that the Austin Gypsy was dropped when Rover became part of BMC. The early Gypsy's had all round independent suspension using the Moulton system of rubber blocks just like the Champ. Its one disadvantage was its having a steel body as against the Land Rovers aluminium one.
  15. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Some of the things supermarket chains put in salads ought to be banned from salads. My pet hate is grated carrot. The only place for carrots is in stews and casseroles, and only then in small amounts. My ideal salad would consist of tomatoes, sweet peppers, black olives, lettuce (Iceberg), cucumber and onions. Eaten with cheese or cold meat of choice accompanied by fresh baked bread.
  16. As I said, I only have to adjust my watch when the clocks change. I don't have the central heating on a timer, just a set temperature and thats it, it shows the time and for the next six months it will be the right time. There is also the old digital clock in the spare room that is such a PITA to adjust I leave it on GMT. The damp patches are still there in the utility room, still visible but neither increasing or reducing in size. Obviously from some sort of container but what and where from I've no idea.
  17. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis and his mate Si Attica were in full cry this morning accompanied by the Ex Zemma which decided to itch like mad. After a long soak in the bath and a brace of Nurofen they are now in retreat. Muggatee awaits so its be back later.
  18. For your information. https://www.hobbyfarms.com/14-toxic-plants-your-chickens-must-avoid-3/
  19. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis and his mate Si Attica keep popping up this evening but the Nurofen keeps them in their place most of the time. Apparently its official, the covid jab does make Arthur Itis worse, a doctor on one of the news reports confirmed it as so. The only timepiece that I have to turn forward is my watch. I had a bit of 'practice' last Sunday as I misread my watch and was out of bed an hour earlier.
  20. I don't use Polyfilla and insulation board to make cakes, they only taste as if I do.
  21. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been zapping some weeds this afternoon, those that have popped up in what I laughably call a lawn. The weed killer should have done its job by Tuesday when I plan to give the lawn a shave. Nipped down to Tess Coes and found a pack of apple and cinnamon hot X buns in the reduced to clear. I've had a couple with a muggatee and the other two will be for later.
  22. Its a concrete floor but the only buried pipe is the gas main and thats a few feet away. There was some water pipes but they are redundant since a new supply was put in several years ago, the new supply connects above floor level and is nowhere near the damp patch. I've had another look and found another damp patch a foot away. Both damp patches are square about four inches on each side so a leaking container is prime suspect.
