  1. Just acquired a new locomotive for Minerva Street. It was on flea-bay and my bid of £101 was successful and a little bit less than I was prepared to pay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/oo-gauge-london-underground-acton-shunter-kit-built-Radley-Models/294082826139
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just purchased through E-bay an item that runs on two parallel bits of metal when Elec trickery is passed through said bits of metal. I was expecting to have to pay a bit more than I did for it as well. Chuffed I am.
  3. I have my tongue firmly in my cheek when I speak of the use by date lottery. Only the other day I was eating some marmalade that was twelve years out of date. The sound of the vacuum going when the jar was opened was proof that it was OK to eat.
  4. The use-by-date lottery has given me several options for dinner tonight, decisions, decisions.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. My draft will arrived this morning, something to do over the bank holiday. Though it will be cold over the bank holiday its predicted to be dry so perhaps a bit of the G word. If it does rain a bit of work on the layout will take place.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Like Chris today marks the last day of work for me only mine was two years later. Technically my last actual day at work was the end of February, I had saved up my leave and used it at the end. I'm sure those of you who are retired will agree with me when I say how did I find the time to go to work? Muggatee to be drunk and now to start the rest of my retirement.
  7. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The boiler has behaved itself today but I'll give the system a top up before I go to bed tonight. There is definitely a leak and I have found it. It was the damp patch in the utility room after all. There is an old disconnected radiator in there and one of the valves has sprung a leak. The damp patch was about two feet away from the leak but water must have percolated along the line of a stud wall that had been removed many years ago when the porch was extended. The water then settled where a doorpost had been hence the rectangular damp patch. The intention was to replace the radiator with a smaller one to make space for a washing machine.
  8. Actually I'm an atheist. I haven't had any god botherers call since I placed a 'no cold callers' notice on the door. Apparently most organisations like the JW's take heed of such notices as they don't want the bad publicity that comes from ignoring them.
  9. Having spent the last 13 years developing my beard that now reaches down to my chest my way of dealing with JW's is to give them a stare and say in a loud voice 'Allah is the one true god' , that gets them running.
  10. No, doing a 'decoke' as your driving along.
  11. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. It is said of pigs when they are slaughtered everything gets used except for the grunt, best not to ask what bits go into pork sausages. The use-by-date lottery means fish and potato pie with assorted veg is dinner tonight and I must remember to switch on to the Yesterday channel at 8 for the program on Brooklands.
  12. Is there an echo here on ER's? Anyway welcome back GDB.
  13. I had a similar experience only yesterday only the vehicle in front of me and behind the cyclist was a bus. No way could the bus pass him even where a car possibly could. The bus eventually pulled into a bus stop and the lycra lout then sped off, straight across a mini roundabout without stopping, almost being hit by a car on the roundabout. I worked with a 'lycra lout' who used to take delight in doing such things and even used to boast about it. One morning he came in and asked for the first aider. A front seat passenger in a car just happened to have a broken off aerial in his hand and somehow managed to whip the cyclists backside with it. You could see a little blood seeping through the lycra. He wasn't that popular in the office and the first aider was seen carrying a bottle of Dettol into the first aid room. His eyes were watering afterwards as he sat down very gingerly.
  14. I'd keep an eye on it if I were you. These developments are happening all over and the local councils can't do much about it. A developer acquires some land then puts forward a plan to build houses on the land. If the planning authority says no the developer reaches for a lawyer to appeal against the decision. The planning authority then have to get their own lawyer to defend the decision. Those lawyers don't come cheap and the authority often can't afford to hire those lawyers. Some authorities just roll over and rubber stamp the development others try to recover something from the wreckage and stipulate x% social housing and a few 'starter homes' that few can afford. Yet whenever this happens 'its always the councils fault' whatever their colour.
  15. Greetings again from Estuary-Land. I was hoping some of the G word would get done today but hay fever has put paid to that. The M word might get done if I can find my mojo. Here is something for cake lovers, a local delicacy from Essex and Suffolk. https://www.visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/blog/2020/how-to-make-suffolk-kitchel It is still produced by some independent bakeries and served up in a few pubs and restaurants.
  16. Its all a load of bollards to me.
  17. On the subject of cake (hippos and bears calm down) this is a local delicacy of the Essex/Suffolk borders. https://www.visit-burystedmunds.co.uk/blog/2020/how-to-make-suffolk-kitchel Some independent bakeries in the region still produce it but it sells out rapidly.
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up early this morning, nothing to do with Arthur Itis who is quiet at the moment. I have found that my stamina levels seem to have dropped, whether it is just old age or the enforced home detention or something else. In my case it could be too many late nights, its unusual for me to be in bed before midnight.
  19. He'll still have a roof over his head for the next few years, with bars on the windows.
  20. Evening all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this evening been ploughing through my Farcebook groups. The tear and share cinnamon bun is no more and I didn't have to share it either . Now to catch up on the rest of Farcebook.
  21. Time to see what the use-by-date lottery decides what's for dinner.
