  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. I have had a laser printer for about ten years. It developed a fault last year that cost about £300 to repair but that included a couple of ink cartridges. An identical (rebuilt) one without ink cartridges was advertised on E-bay for £500 at the same time. Mine is a Lexmark X543, a bit more expensive than HP, even the cartridges are more expensive but are at least three times the size and can be refilled at home (if you don't mind the mess). I purchased it because I wanted to print my own transfers and downloadable models. I will have to book a haircut sometime this week. The barbers is situated in Tess Coe's at Pitsea, a tad pricey but ever so convenient.
  2. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has disappeared this evening, hopefully he wont be back for while. Have been sorting out the spare modelling junk room this evening, found a couple of models I'd forgotten I had. That calls for tea so time to put the kettle on.
  3. So that's where it went.
  4. I concur. In fact the train is not that far past London Fields station.
  5. Make it a bit sooner next time.
  6. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis has been making his presence felt but more Ibuforen has been taken to quiet him down. Bright and sunny still outside but still a bit on the chilly side. Tea has brewed so its be back later. Oops nearly forgot, good to see Trisonic back.
  7. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was having a real go this morning but a long soak in the bath and a couple of Nurofen have seen him off. The second option is what happened in the Spanish flu epidemic just over 100 years ago.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. As I said the actor/celebrity I most resemble is Ricky Tomlinson. Lets turn Flavio's list around and tell which well known personage you think you resemble the most.
  9. If you had said I resembled Ricky Tomlinson you would have been spot on. We have met electronically on the ER's Zoom meeting a couple of weeks ago.
  10. Probably diecast, it will feature 'posable' front wheels so maybe Magnorail would be better.
  11. Here's the one I was thinking of. https://gwrlocomotivesketchpad.wordpress.com/1490-the-first-great-western-pannier-tank/
  12. About 10-12 years ago I was looking at some beach huts at Holland-on-sea. Prices ranged from £5,000 to £8,000. I couldn't quite get the money to purchase one without taking out a loan. I wish I had now as you just have to add a nought on to the end of those figures if you want to buy one now.
  13. I can see 'staycation' holidays being even more expensive over the next few years until overseas holidays are considered covid safe. All a case of supply and demand.
  14. I have a separate bank account just for instances where I don't trust the security. At the moment it holds 42p.
  15. Talking of panniers, wasn't there a pannier tank in 4-4-0PT configuration with outside frames?
  16. They used to test the flood warning sirens on Canvey Island (only a couple of feet above sea level) once or twice a year but I haven't heard them for ages now. There were also roads designated as 'red routes' for emergency evacuation signified by red lines painted along the edge of the road but these seem to have disappeared as well.
  17. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. On the subject of forenames one of my maternal grandmothers names was Alma, inherited from her mother and grandmother. It is derived from the battle of Alma during the Crimean war so being named after a battle is nothing new. Another naming tradition from Victorian times is the practice of using a surname, quite often the mothers maiden name as a second forename and sometimes as a first forename. My uncle had the second name of Gower and his uncle had it as a first name. When doing family history research I took a guess and entered it as a surname and I found that it had been a surname from a couple of generations further back as well as giving another branch of the family tree to investigate. The only way that Charles is not going to become king is if he dies before his mother. Over the past few years he has increasingly taken over many of the queens duties and in a few years time he will probably take over more of the duties and become king in all but name.
  18. One thing that puzzles me. I recall that there was a proposal to send some of the 1984 tube stock to the Island when it was withdrawn. The 1984 tube stock was the tube gauge version of the D stock that is currently being rebuilt for use on the island. The main reason for rejection of the 1984 stock was the single leaf doors. The new stock has single leaf doors. So why the change?
  19. There are several different variations of that on Farcebook. Whether you agree with her or not some of the comments have been pretty nasty and unpleasant.
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit chilly this morning but Arthur Itis has been put back in his box by a brace of Nurofen. BBC news as usual goes OTT with such happenings. For your information World War III has just started, only joking of course, or am I? Just about to play Nina Simone for the third time, be back later.
