  1. I remember that but the problem with it was it could only run a short distance before running out of water.
  2. They would get a hefty sum for releasing Russell's contract.
  3. Didn't the Germans have a steam railcar that was a 4-2-0? IIRC it also had outside Walscherts valve gear.
  4. If there's a vulture around I wouldn't go sunbathing.
  5. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I mentioned the shortage of salads a few days ago. On the news this morning one thing that there is no shortage of is strawberries. In fact their is a glut and even the supermarkets are selling them at knock down prices. More a case of nick off than kick off.
  6. A few years ago (late 90's) they had a parrot nosed Dodge and an Austin K series still delivering coal but kept in immaculate condition.
  7. The dates are either side of my 73rd birthday next month. I will certainly take up the shingles jab as I had chicken pox when I was a child. Just wondering if there's any side effects.
  8. I could not identify it and thought it must be an imported species.
  9. Hello again from Estuary-Land. Just received a letter from the NHS inviting me for a shingles and a pneumonia jab. I didn't even know that such vaccines are available. I'll phone up and make the appointment(s) later. I had trouble with black berries in the council shrubbery next door but the fence, with concrete gravel boards seems to have dealt with the problem effectively. The suckers have to go over the fence to get into my garden and secateurs are at the ready when they try to do so. Apparently blackcurrants and ivy are very good at soaking up atmospheric pollution. I have Ivy growing in the garden but well away from any buildings one on a concrete fencepost and another on an old brick garden wall.
  10. It seems that vendor has cornered the market in 'Coming soons' at £99 each.
  11. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A lot fresher this morning and the weather report says 15C. A bit of cloud but forecast to go this morning. I will not continue with the G word until this evening when things cool off. It could be foxes or even muntjac deer. A green (garden waste) wheelie bin has mysteriously appeared in the council shrubbery alongside my house, there is no markings on it indicating the owner. The estate has its own Farcebook page so I'll ask on there if anyone's missing one.
  12. The distribution switchboard for the entire Ipswich system still exists as part of the Ipswich transport museum. The museum is housed in the old (1930's built) Priory Heath trolleybus depot and the switchboard is part of the original fittings.
  13. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Done a bit of the G word this evening, a patch of the front garden that I had intended to gravel and I had placed a piece of old carpet on the area. It came in useful as to get rid of the weeds I only had to roll the old carpet up. Only downside was it had been peed on by the local cats and ponged more than a bit. No problem getting rid of it as my neighbour has a skip and gave me permission to use it. Its a bit cooler now but tomorrow is predicted to be a hot one (again).
  14. There was one supplying power to the Southend pier trains. When they ceased running it was sold to the East Anglian Transport Museum at Carlton Colville and used there to operate the trams and trolleybuses. I understand that it is now no longer used but 'fired up' from time to time as a demonstration. IIRC there is also one in the science museum.
  15. Hello again from Estuary-Land. Still hot and sticky and now overcast though the weather report on the tool bar still says sunny.
  16. Hopefully he's bidding because he wants it.
  17. The car was stolen and the driver done a runner. https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/news/driver-of-stolen-car-that-smashed-into-train-in-doncaster-hunted-after-fleeing-scene-3272588 Nine out of ten media reports state 'train hits car'.
  18. It appears the car wasn't even on the road but had crossed over the opposite carriageway and crashed through the fence onto the track.
  19. Actually I have the book in question on my bookshelf. The highest price was for a first edition in mint condition. Mine is an early edition but the dust cover is tattered and torn.
  20. There was also one at a Butlins holiday camp decked out as a 'Casey Jones' type locomotive hauling a train of passenger trailers.
  21. I looked up a book for another thread and the first one to show had an asking price of £129:50. There was also a paperback version at £2:99.
  22. I've split my bucket list into three parts, possible, maybe and a snowball in hell's chance.
