  1. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The heating has been on overnight, its that cold and according to the forecast tonight will be even colder. The TV is behaving itself, I have improved the ventilation on the box by leaving the doors of the TV stand open. Time to run a bath, be back later.
  2. Bristol FLF chassis had a special frame attached for the journey to Lowestoft. The worst to drive would be the subframes for the Metro-Scania, they were bolted together with about a six foot wheelbase.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The weather thingy is showing 13C and sunny WTF! It hasn't been sunny at all today and certainly not now at 9:45 even on the longest day.
  4. About to tackle Farcebook. Last night I seemed to go through my groups in double quick time and then I realised many of them had gone AWOL, it seems that Farcebook were making changes. The groups returned eventually but it was well past bedtime when they did come back so I will have to check them tonight.
  5. Property of the GW society. Used to deliver locomotive coal to the Didcot rail centre.
  6. Early 2000's when the Health and Safety at work regulations kicked in.
  7. My heating has come into play its that cold. 13C. outside according to the weather thingy. Summer solstice? as Baz would say, Pah!
  8. All commercial vehicles over a certain weight have to carry the operator/owners name and address. Problem is that it is only required to be placed behind the N/S front wheel and in not very large letters.
  9. They have those fitted to a bus only lane in East Ham, London. A few times car drivers have tried to sneak through behind a bus. It was happening so often that they had a platform lorry with a Hi-ab standing by. Invariably the cars were so badly damaged that they were written off.
  10. This from the Fear of landing from only a few weeks ago. Mid air collision where everyone walked away. https://fearoflanding.com/accidents/mid-air-collision-on-approach-to-centennial-airport/
  11. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Went to take a bit of eye-lid inspection after lunch and just came out of hibernation. Joints are a bit stiff as they are most mornings. I'll look up the fares to Fraggle Rock from Estuary-Land but I seem to recall some organised rail tours being advertised before covid which although more expensive would mean less organization. Kettle is about to boil so I'll be back later.
  12. I could tow a caravan and drive anything up to 7:5 tonnes until I was 70. I could have kept them on the licence if I passed a medical but the £160 cost of the medical put me off.
  13. Thanks for that Jamie. The replica hangers at Stow Maries are based on the same design with a Belfast Truss roof, copied from those at Duxford. Bramham Moor would have been much the same as Stow Maries except most of the buildings would have been demolished in 1919.
  14. The name of the station in Ireland is Killeagh. https://www.airfieldresearchgroup.org.uk/community/150963=18119-Killeagh 1 001.jpg
  15. Stow Maries is the only completely unaltered WW1 airfield as it was abandoned in 1919 and not reinstated or rebuilt or demolished. There are several early hangers some dating from WW1 used for agriculture or industry often the only indication that there was ever an airfield there. The only other WW1 air related site that is intact is a Royal Navy airship station in Southern Ireland. That was abandoned 100 years ago when Ireland became an independent nation. The hangers being largely of wood have disappeared but the shells of the buildings still survive but in a derelict state.
  16. What sort of bulb is fitted in SWMBO's reading lamp? If its one of those long life bulbs that could be the reason as when they are switched on they take quite a bit of power to start up. Best option is a LED bulb as they also give a better light for reading.
  17. They've landed a Hercules on an aircraft carrier so why not. Stow Maries is a remarkable survivor, the site was leased by the war ministry and after the war normally such sites were demolished but in this case the farmer requested that all the buildings remain and he used them for storage and animal shelters. During WW2 the Germans bombed the site thinking it was North Weald and the hangers (used for storing hay). Apart from a couple of other buildings the rest of the site remained unscathed. Hopefully I will be able to visit the site in the near future.
  18. My car is easy to calculate MPG. It normally averages ten miles per litre. 1 gallon = 4.6 litres so 10 X 4.6 = 46 MPG.
  19. I looked up my posts on one Wheeltappers thread (Early Risers) and its more than my total shown for all other threads.
  20. The one on the left looks like Terry Wogan, who started out as a male model.
  21. My brother-in-law had no trouble reversing his caravan but then he was a professional driver (both trucks and buses). Now retired he has a motorhome.
  22. We have an almost complete WW1 airfield locally. https://www.stowmaries.org.uk/
  23. I was posting above when you posted that. The estate is just over sixty years old and the tiles used are no longer available so any spares are useful.
  24. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was doing his thing this morning but has now gone quiet without the need for Nurofen. TV is behaving itself this morning and if the box heats up again I will contact Virgin, even if it doesn't I'll ask them to check it out. They re-roofed the houses on the estate that still belonged to the housing association or the council about ten years ago. They replaced all of the tiles as the style fitted was no longer made. I took advantage and managed to recover about forty undamaged ones (they were thrown from roof height into a skip and many were damaged). Waiting for the rain to arrive, will have to venture out for bread and milk but otherwise its a good day to stay indoors.
