  1. Here is the first recipient of the treatment.
  2. Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit of brightness this morning following the rain persisting down last night. I stayed up to finish the crime thriller I was reading and didn't get to bed until three this morning. Time to run a bath, be back later.
  3. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Been quite warm today but according to the seaweed twirlers tomorrow the rain will arrive. A good year for poppies, they are coming out of everywhere including the gaps in the paving bricks of the front path. I noticed that there are more of the normal red coloured poppies this year, most of them used to be a deep pink cultivated variety but they are being displaced by the normal red ones.
  4. I Googled the serial number on the base, Wz 4421 and it came up with this:- Faller Holzhaus Nr. Wz. 4421 (Alpen) https://www.faller.de/gb/en/Products/Track-gauges/N-selection/The-town-the-village/Farm-barnyard/Large-Alpine-farm-with-barn-sid15398.html
  5. I wear glasses but I've discovered a little trick that alleviates the problem but it might not work with all face masks*. I fold the top edge of the mask in so that there's a double barrier. It also makes it easier to blouse out the mask in front of the mouth. Breathing through the mouth also helps. I do still have a problem when going into a warm room from the cold but the misting ceases after a few minutes. *I use soft cloth face masks branded 'Step Ahead' obtainable from Tesco's.
  6. I had an Imp van once, problem was zero oil pressure. So out came the engine and when it was stripped down the cause became apparent. The oil filler cap was in the door sill and was frequently mistaken for the radiator cap. The engine was cleaned up and a new oil filter fitted and fresh oil and it kept the pressure. I did sell it soon after as I'd booked a holiday and needed some spending money. I did paint the word 'oil' on the filler cap.
  7. That would make a great 'sleeper', a Minx based Husky with the innards of a Sunbeam Tiger.
  8. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Note to self, check the bl@@dy TV program early enough to make sure your not missing anything. I only picked it up just now to see that the news was on at four instead of six. Pah! as Baz would say.
  9. With regard to the 100E estates Fords had intended to produce an estate version based on the saloon. But the bean counters said no. So the Escort and Squire had to make do with the van bodyshell which caused other problems. The vans petrol tank was placed in the footwell behind the driver, a good use of what would otherwise be wasted space. When carrying passengers of course the footwell would be required for its original purpose so the petrol tank had to go in the small space behind the back axle and could only hold about 5 or 6 gallons. A similar situation occurred to the Hillman Imp, the estate had to use the van bodyshell. As originally planned it would have been a hatchback rather like the Sunbeam Rapier.
  10. When I was working for the council their main vehicle workshops were literally just across the road. They had an MoT test station on site that was open to the general public. They just did MoT's, no repairs. I used to take my cars in there for an MoT and quite often I would find things such as the handbrake had been adjusted, all for just the MoT fee. I and most of my colleagues always sent them a Christmas box. It was not necessary with any of my cars but if they found anything serious they'd fix it for a reasonable amount. I know of only one car that they couldn't fix and that was scrapped.
  11. Just lubricate the gears first before dismantling the locomotive, if that works you've saved yourself the bother. A closer examination of my locomotive reveals that it does have NEM pockets that swivel on a plastic pin, and the wagon is the same. The hole for the plastic pin can be seen in your photograph just below the screw head. If the Dapol couplings aren't available I would suggest seeking out a suitable second hand Dapol wagon for the couplings.
  12. There was a trend for a few years to bring 100E's up to 107E standard. Apart from the greasy bits all that was required was a modified transmission tunnel, a 107E front crossmember and special shackles to fit the 105E back axle to the springs (the springs on the 105E were about an inch further apart IIRC). Another 100E conversion was an estate car based on the prefect converted in the same fashion as the Consuls and Zephyrs with the saloon rear doors. Very few were sold as it was more expensive than the Escort and Squire models but there is at least one survivor. Sadly it has been 'hot-rodded' with a two litre Pinto engine.
  13. I brought my car brand new thirteen years ago. It came with a five year warranty. During the warranty period I was told that the cambelt had to be changed and it was. Not because it needed changing the service manager apologised but they had to replace it under to the warranty. Once the warranty period was over there was a lot less that needed to be done over and above the basic servicing and MoT and that only the battery and tyres.
  14. Wasn't there a guy a few months back who managed to use every parking bay in his local supermarket. He even created a computer program to achieve this. The only question is why?
  15. True, my first car was a 100E. The only drawback was accessibility to that space. Like many 1950's Ford designs there was the high boot sill.
  16. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was in full song this morning but quietened down as soon as I started moving about. Congratulations to our young tennis players, Emma Raducanu and Dan Evans. Hopefully they will get nearer to the final than previous British players (not forgetting Andy Murray of course). Most of you are aware that I am not a footie fan but the Euro final will be on my birthday. I might try to get up some enthusiasm but don't hold your breath.
  17. At my local Tess Coes the parking isn't helped by one parking space, usually in the centre of a row taken up with a trolley bay. A half width trolley bay at the end of the row would enable more room without losing any parking spaces. I read somewhere that a supermarket made all its parking bays like the disabled/mother and child bays with a marked out area separating them losing about 20% of the parking bays and that actually increased footfall in the store.
  18. I drive an 08 registered Hyundai i10, one of the smallest cars on the road. A few weeks ago I parked next to a 100E Prefect which was a lot smaller.
  19. I asked about NEM pockets on a Facebook group. Apparently the earlier models were not fitted with NEM pockets. You need to fit a Kaydee 242 draft box if it doesn't have NEM pockets.
