  1. Airfix was 'flexible' with the scales quoted depending what market they targeted.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. What with Gordon's passing and Dom's terrible news everything else seems trivial and what I was going to write here is put back till later.
  3. Very sorry to hear of Gordon's death though it wasn't entirely unexpected. Dom's news was terrible, a truly shocking thing to happen. At least the alleged perpetrator is in the hands of the police.
  4. There was something called banana oil that when used as an undercoat made the paint stick. I understand the current option is a coat of PVA.
  5. There was also a Bedford RL IIRC. Or was that a different scale?
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The car goes in for service and MoT after lunch, should pass easily as its done little mileage in the last year. A bit cloudy outside but dry outside and predicted to dry up. Time for breakfast, be back later.
  7. My Dart account has been cancelled as I hadn't used it for more than a year. I'm sure that there was a credit on it but I've received nothing back.
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land. There's an event that I'm hoping to attend over in East Sussex next month so I tried to restart my Dart account. I tried to do it on-line but it kept throwing it out so I'll try by phone tomorrow.
  9. Indeed there was a connection. The Liverpool Overhead Railway (the dockers umbrella) was built directly above the dock lines for much of its length. This contributed to the eventual demise of the LOR as the steam locomotive exhaust caused corrosion of the LOR viaducts.
  10. Colour film of London 1924. https://www.facebook.com/RigaMasterWorkshop/videos/1364122183974385
  11. Glad to be of assistance.
  12. For those who might be interested. https://leighfolkfestival.com/ Whats more its free.
  13. The travellators in my local Asda's and Tesco's do not use magnets. The wheels on the trolleys consist of four or five thin discs separated by smaller fixed discs with a slot in the bottom. The slots engage with raised tangs on the travellator and lock the trolley in place. The tangs are part of the travellator tread pattern.
  14. Not only New York, Regents Park station was also closed due to flooding today.
  15. When I started with the council in the housing rents department there was one house left in such a state after an eviction that the plaster on the walls had to be replaced together with the floorboards. The occupants just used to urinate up against the walls or where they stood.
  16. Should be on the 'When the real thing looks like a model thread'
  17. The Triumph Company went into receivership in 1939 and the factory was destroyed in the blitz. Virtually all that was left was the name which was purchased by the Standard motor company in the late 40's.
  18. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Weather here is rain, sun, rain, sun, its confused the hell out of the Windows weather thingy. A list of schools and places I worked is below. Maylands Avenue infants school, Elm Park. Still there but original buildings replaced. School renamed? Rainsford Junior School Hornchurch. Main building still standing and in use. Renamed. Hylands boys secondary modern. Malvern Road, Hornchurch. Now a gated housing estate. Kearly & Tonge Ltd. Mitre Square, City of London. Demolished and rebuilt twice. K&T now part of Morrisons. Post Office Counters, various post offices in and around Romford. Based at the main post office in South Street, Romford of which only the front wall remains held up by a block of flats. Most of the other post offices I worked in have now gone with the remaining buildings re-purposed. Hall & Co. South Street, Romford. A new built office block about 50 yards from the post office on the same side of the street. AFAIK its still there. Whilst there I witnessed the fire that destroyed the old ECR wagon works at Gidea Park c.1967, that was two miles away. The wagon works was used as a furniture factory, all that paint, varnish, glue and wood made good fuel. Back to the GPO, telephones this time in old exchange at Seven Kings. Replaced by flats. Dagenham Civic Centre, 1970-2008 Building remains (Grade II* listing) Now leased out to an 'academy'.
  19. The rain has stopped and there's now a strange shining object in the sky. My first job (1964) was working in a Victorian building that was demolished about ten years later and replaced by a glass and concrete edifice that in turn has now been demolished and replaced by a skyscraper. The original buildings address had some notoriety as it (Mitre Square) had been the site where Jack the Ripper had murdered Katherine Eddows. The square has been obliterated in the latest rebuilding.
  20. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Only one subject on the news this morning, its only a game FFS. Still didn't stop the idiots with the fireworks after midnight but the rain did. Speaking of which it was very damp this morning, paused at the moment but more promised for the rest of the day.
  21. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The internet seems to be very quiet this evening, I wonder why?
