  1. That is not the case, bull bars can do more damage but in my case it was other drivers being careless (opening doors without checking that it is safe to do so) or selfish and aggressive driving (forcing their way into traffic). Naturally I would prefer those accidents not to have happened as reporting it to my insurance and sometimes the police took time and effort. I always report any incident to my insurers after someone scraped their car on my stationary car (which wasn't damaged as it was on a bolt on the bumper that the other car came in contact with.) They subsequently claimed against my insurance and as I hadn't reported it they paid out although my car was stationary at the time. A bit of a dilemma, risk crawling under or not securing the flap and it dropping on your head.
  2. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A few posts to go as its not until the page is full (25 posts) that it counts. It did have that reputation but I never had any problems with the handling even turning right at a local mini roundabout with a rather pronounced button and an adverse camber. The problem arose because they became 'trendy' at one time and the mostly young inexperienced drivers expected them to handle like a Mini Cooper. Not helped by the open top versions being the most popular amongst those drivers.
  3. Or revive one of the Edwardian schemes for a tunnel connecting the island to the mainland.
  4. I do hope you hear from them. They seem to be making some of their models in UK liveries now. The Mk. II Transit ambulance in St. Johns Ambulance livery and the Sprinter van in TfL buses livery (The same as the CMNL one but the correct SWB model).
  5. The only bits that weren't badly corroded were the parts that were replaced after wartime bombing.
  6. Just ordered one. I probably now have more brake vans than wagons.
  7. They'd need more than one, at least one other to cover for servicing and repairs. Sadly its not viable unless you have several units as keeping spares for only one or two unique units is a none-starter. It only works on the I-o-W because of the circumstances prevailing on the island.
  8. They're WW2 vintage, they were copied from British military trucks of the early 30's.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was having a shout this morning but Nurofen has quietened him down. We're now on page 9999 so not long now to page10000. I once had a Suzuki SJ with a set of proper* bull bars on it. Over the couple of years I had it they accounted for a couple of carelessly opened car doors and quite a few front bumpers** . *The sort that were made illegal but as it was an early model and they were fitted from new I could keep them. **A lot of drivers pulling out of side turnings try to force their way out by creeping over the line forcing drivers on the main road to manoeuvre around them or stop, I did neither. Plastic bumpers just disintegrated.
  10. Kinder Egg produced their eggs with snap together kits for Smart cars, four different types all to 1/72 scale. A Japanese company also produced a similar item with various Japanese cars including Mk. I & II Nissan Micra's in approx. 1/78 scale, several models in the 'fit the box' category and to a smaller scale but also a model of the original Datsun as a roadster in the same scale.
  11. A few odd ones in there such as Cambodia.
  12. Several other countries use British plugs and sockets and of course 230/240 Volts. Malta and Barbados do and I believe the Irish Republic and Cyprus do so as well. Does anyone know of any other countries that do?
  13. I have a book of colour photographs taken by US servicemen in the UK 1942-45 that includes some railway and other transport items as well as a lot of 'touristy' things. Kodachrome went on sale in the US in 1939/40.
  14. I've just ordered the Clio and the 205 plus an Oxford Mk. II Escort. Any possibility of getting TINY HK models in stock?
  15. Did someone mention sheds. https://www.cuprinol.co.uk/shedoftheyear.jsp
  16. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I don't have wooden decking as its not advisable with the number of foxes around. However in the old shed I had a tongue and grooved chest of which the ingress of water had rotted out the bottom. However I was able to rescue some of the boards that are now doing service as shelves in the new shed. Of the remains the end boards were not long enough to use as shelves but enough of them to make a box about 18" X 18" and about 4" deep. The rest was too rotten and went on the bonfire. Tea has brewed so I'll be back later.
  17. In Tess Coe's today, Hot Wheels '2020 Ram1500 Rebel' US pick up truck looks very close to 00 scale.
  18. I was just looking through some old e-mails and found a reminder that my card I'd used to set up the original Dart-charge account was about to expire. It does however have the all important original account number.
  19. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just set up a new pre-payment account on Dart-charge. They can find no record of my previous account though and they have no record. I did try previously to check it but it didn't recognise my e-mail address which I thought at the time was rather odd. Now I will have to find the letter telling me that my previous account was cancelled which with my filing system (on top of the heap of bills and notices) might take some time.
  20. Milk tanks were classed as None passenger coaching stock and numbered as such.
  21. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The car flew through the MoT yesterday so today I have to get next years tax, all of £30 to fork out. Muggatee needs drinking, be back later.
  22. Colour photography began as far back as the 1840's. Not long after the first pioneer photographs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_photography https://www.boredpanda.com/first-color-photos-vintage-old-autochrome-lumiere-auguste-louis/?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic
  23. Evening all from Estuary-Land. I don't know how but I seem to have got through Farcebook a lot quicker than usual so it looks like an early night. A few things to do first then its off to bed.
