  1. They could be making items for BR such as relay cabinets and other steel fabrications.
  2. To represent swarf I would suggest teasing out small pieces of wire wool. Easy to 'rust' as well by dipping it in water, but don't do as I did and forget about it. I came back a week later to find a rusty brown sludge.
  3. My 1977 Reliant Kitten van is fitted with N/S and O/S mirrors. It is described as a DL model in the log book so that it is not the basic model however.
  4. I'd keep the cars and upgrade them to use on the layout. The ambulance and lorry are HO scale.
  5. Only to be dreaming about painting doors window, fire escapes and wriggly tin roofs.
  6. Yes, beer does tend to make you confuse vertical with horizontal, especially after one to many.
  7. As long as she did not answer 'So have I.' Hat, coat gone >>>
  8. The Minix 1100 can be updated with the wheels and interior from the Cararama mini.
  9. Thanks for that Merf, I've now signed up to the Yahoo group.
  10. Or 'Skol lager, the only liquid that can pass through the human body unaltered'.
  11. The Transit's the first of which would be approaching 10 years old in the mid 70's were favourites with small builders. The new Transit car carrier from Oxford could be adapted by shortening the wheelbase and scratch building the dropside body. A few builders also used the Volkswagen Transporter pick up as made by Oxford.
  12. The rapid inflation came in the mid 70's. It was caused by a massive hike in the price of oil after one of the many wars between Israel and the Arab nations. I think it was in 1976, the year of the long hot summer.
  13. It would be better to put them on the engine cover to stop them from getting cold.
  14. Only if they were fried in beef dripping.
  15. Back in 1970 was Land Rover part of BL? The original RR concept was a multi purpose vehicle for farmers which despite its 100 mph top speed did not handle very well. The first people to find a use for the RR were the police for Motorway patrol. It was only after BL took over Rover that it was effectively marketed. Until then Rover was allways strapped for cash, which was one of the reasons for the development of the Range Rover which was a fairly simple body with the interior from a Rover saloon on a Land Rover chassis with the ex Buick engine that Rover's had recently acquired.
  16. The 'Quiet contemplation at Crewe' would make for a great caption competition.
  17. Bernard TPM does the Atkinson 'A's.
  18. One of the best Oxford models is the AEC Regent fire engine. Currently available from Atlas Editions for £1.99.
  19. Almost certainly 1/80 scale. I have the complete sets of 'Railway Magazine' from Jan 1928 to Dec 1939 and I will have a trawl through the ads to see if I can find anything.
  20. The Vickers Vigor was based on the Tetrache light tank. Both were designed for use by Airborne forces and carried in the Hamilcar gliders.
  21. This is actually being unloaded from a lorry! Not just any lorry but one of two (or maybe three?) special rigid 8 wheel AEC's operated by Pickfords. They can be identified by the use of Trolleybus rear axles.
  22. Photos 1 & 3 the 'Bridge beams' are in fact balance beams to evenly spread the load over all axles. Photo # 6 is of a cracking tower used in oil refineries.
  23. IIRC some Sentinels (or Rolls Royce) were used by British forces in Germany. When the forces were withdrawn any remaining locomotives were disposed of locally, probably for scrap but at least one was used in Holland or Belgium for a while.
