  1. It seems that Jaguar/Land Rover are quite happy if not eager to licence models of their products. Other manufacturers do not seem to be as eager, thats why you won't be seeing any Mercedes models from Oxford any time soon. Even EFE have recently bought out a new version of the Mercedes minibus without the Mercedes star as the licencing fees are prohibitive.
  2. A short clip is shown on the District Dave website of the train with Sarah S and the pannier tank on one end and a 20 on the other. Is this unique having steam, electric and diesel locos all working one train together?
  3. They do not for me, they just take you to the sight. I clicked on the 'photographs' tab but there is no identification numbers on the photographs. On your postings there looks like a gap between 'Liverpool' and 'Street', when posting links there should be no gaps. On the pics I looked at there was something like %20 between Liverpool and Street? When I post links I always check in preview (click on 'More Reply Options') to make sure that they work before posting.
  4. The services are quite intensive so it was deemed necessary to have several locomotives. Each train has two locomotives as a 'back up' in case of breakdown. Don't forget that the lines used accommodate regular intensive services so it is logical to provide each train with its own 'Thunderbird'.
  5. A Coles mobile crane? it looks like the operators club.
  6. Its not just Hornby, most products from China have a flexible delivery date.
  7. External mirrors were only mandatory on vans and estate cars (where the view through the interior mirror could be obscured by a load). Many manufacturers offered them as an extra and the choice of drivers side only or both sides.
  8. The car wouldn't have got off so lightly if it had been a train.
  9. It was proposed under the Light Railways act, but like many such proposals it wasn't proceeded with. IIRC it would have either meant moving the station at Ongar or the local cemetery. There was a layout based on the proposed line that appeared in a model railway magazine some years ago.
  10. I've got one of those, I paid £1 for it. Perhaps I should put it on e-bay.
  11. They did indeed use 3.8 mm to the foot. It equates to 1/80 scale.
  12. I have a book called 'Transport Treasures of Trafford Park'. Published in 1973 ISBN 0 903839 01 6. This is a photo album of Trafford Park from the late Victorian period until 1973. It was published to commemorate Transpo '73, a transport exhibition held in the docks as part of the Festival of Manchester. I would suggest seeking out a copy as it has many illustrations of activity's in the park.
  13. The presence of Triumph Heralds, Ford Anglias and Mini's means that it is post 1959. My grandparents lived in St. Leonards from 1952 to 1972 and until I left school I spent most of the summer holidays there.
  14. The last rat I saw was a couple of weeks ago, in the mouth of a fox! It was still alive and squealing its head off.
  15. Just 300 yards beyond the level crossing at Pitsea is the local council tip. The only access to the tip is across the level crossing. Last Sunday lunch time I was returning from a trip when I decided to call in to the nearby Tesco's only to find that the queue for the tip extended over the crossing and onto the slip road from the A 13, about half a mile. The biggest surprise is that there has not been an obstruction of the crossing or an accident.
  16. Railway Bylines had an article on the locomotives about the same time. I have acquired a fair amount of information on these locomotives that I don't have to hand as it is with the person doing the graphics and drawings for me. I hope to visit the K&ESR later this year to get more information.
  17. My late father worked at the plant from 1952 to 1962. I remember the Bo-Bo Diesels, there was three of them one of which has been preserved in working condition on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. I am working on a OO scale model of one of these locomotives but have reached a bit of an impasse when it comes to the rather complicated roof details.
  18. For the 1100 I would suggest using the wheels from a Cararama Mini as they are the right size and pattern of hub cap. The Thames van I would suggest the wheels from the Oxford Zephyr as both vehicles shared many components.
  19. And before the return of licence make them retake the driving test.
  20. You've added a double track to the front of to BCB since Ally Pally?
  21. I have a booklet entitled 'Memories of the LNER Tyneside' by Allan W. Stobbs, M.S., B.Sc. published by the author in 1988. I can find no ISBN number however. It contains several excellent maps of the lines concerned as well as photographs of the electrics that I have not seen elsewhere.
