  1. Arrived this morning, packed in too small a box causing damage to front of power car, inter car coupling cut off at the bogies to fit it in box.
  2. Perhaps we should have a new thread for all these memories?
  3. Well if I win the lottery I would commission one straight away, as well as a locomotive from an earlier period, a Claud Hamilton.
  4. They were purchased second hand, many went into service still wearing their previous owners colours as well.
  5. Heating it on the radiators at school so it could be drunk.
  6. And thank you for pointing it out, I'm the lucky winner.
  7. We all seem to have forgotten IZAL loo paper (I wonder why?)
  8. The local Co-op was very progressive and delivered the milk by an electric milk float, and the bread too on a different float. Talking of the Co-op woe betide anyone who forgot their mums divvy number.
  9. Laminated glass has been made since the early 20th century. It was only commonly used after it became compulsory after IIRC the 1930 Road Traffic Act, the problem was that it used cellulose as a laminate that used to absorb moisture and discolour (Yellow 'bubbles' appearing around the screen edges. 'Safety' glass, which was created by heat treating glass was invented later (1930's?), this proved to be cheaper than laminated glass and also easier to create the curves that came into fashion from the late forties. However this would sometimes shatter unexpectedly (The original curved windscreens on the class 309's for example.)
  10. Laminated screens came in during the 1980's depending of course on the make/model. The last car I had with a 'safety' windscreen was a Chevette (Y reg) followed by a MkII Fiesta (F reg).
  11. There was even one registered as a ferry wagon. Its sole use was to transfer wheelsets or bogies for other ferry wagons and rolling stock that had failed overseas. It was fitted with an air brake through pipe as can be seen in some of the photographs. There is a colour photograph of it in a book or magazine but I cannot find it at the moment.
  12. No unfortunately, you should be able to find a pic in the current Hatton's ad. By the way they are 1/76 scale.
  13. I have just received a brace of the Oxford Konecranes reach stacker. On examination it might be possible to convert one to remote control. They have working Ackerman steering which would be a help.
  14. So are you going to sell them on e-bay?
  15. I visited a car show this morning at Fords Dunton research facility. Plenty of interesting cars and a chance to drive a Dutton super 7. This is a new event on behalf of the St. Francis Hospice and will run again next year (first Sunday every September).
  16. There is a pic of the same or similar ad on the side of one of their corporation trolleybuses.
  17. The coach is two compartments of a GER coach, identity unknown. The van is ex British Railways B756468.
  18. I have several 80's BR examples, but if I want to sell them I will have to dismantle the rockery.
  19. And the start price was 1p!
