  1. Some of the electric locomotives at Coventry have been converted to battery power, the Kelsey power station locomotive is one.
  2. There were a lot of dodgy car dealers about in the 70's. One in particular I remember was called George Osborne!
  3. A fellow member of my local model railway club is a retired schoolteacher from Canvey Island. In fact Tony might have met him last Sunday, he was on the O gauge layout, a Welshman by the name of Graham.
  4. In the 1970's there were plenty to choose from.
  5. Essex is quite interesting geologically, the south east of the county consists of several ridges running east west, these ridges are the result of the various ice ages. The Thames once used to flow north east and reached the sea near Mersea Island and was diverted by the glaciers to its present course, cutting through a chalk 'finger' at Grays.
  6. Should it have a tan roof? or was that just the buses.
  7. Please, Please, PLEASE Andy can we have a 'GROAN' button.
  8. They have not the slightest idea of what speed they are doing, evident by the way they slow down when they see a speed camera. At least if they keep to a constant speed you can pass them but hardly any of them do.
  9. They also make strenuous efforts to spread the disease not realising that many are resistant to it.
  10. So we probably passed each other at some time. Its possible that we know each other by sight but not who's who.
  11. I was there from 11 till about 12.30 what time was you there.
  12. I didn't see anyone who looked like your avatar either. I should have said just ask anyone on Dinas Madwy or Aldwych to point me out as those layouts are from my club. Failing that I was the scruffy one hobbling about on a stick.
  13. I see they had to use barriers to control the the masses of orange clad customers.
  14. Went to the Canvey show this morning, then realised if Tony S was there how would we recognise each other. Only a few layouts however plus a couple of bus and lorry dioramas and a few dealers so I only spent an hour and a half there.
  15. I don't have any problem with 'Reply quoting this post' but the 'Preview post' option seems to have disappeared, I like to check that URL's are working properly before I post.
  16. Not that far away http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Fauld_explosion Of course if they start Fracking....
  17. Heads up. There is a model railway exhibition at the Castle Point Transport Museum, Canvey Island tomorrow.
  18. I have a T-shirt that reads 'Original Grumpy Old Man', Women keep asking me where they can get one for their husbands.
  19. This morning in Tesco's I was nearly sent flying by one, the woman pushing it was texting.
  20. That would have meant going to work on my annual leave. Actually I did go in for another 2 weeks, and was paid in lieu of my leave so to all intents and purposes I was paid double for my last 2 weeks working.
  21. I retired 6 years ago, you should have seen the expression on the HR managers face when I reminded him that I had amassed 6 weeks annual leave, on the Friday before the commencement of my last 6 weeks.
  22. The most ridiculous stretch limo I've seen has to be a Hummer, I'd like to see one used for its original purpose, going cross country, preferably being shot at.
  23. Didn't Rolls Royce have a hissy fit when the Beatles painted their Phantom V in psychedelic?
  24. Syrup of figs is a good substitute, a good dose and you daren't cough.
