  1. Not forgetting the main rule, if in doubt refer to rule 2 (In this case).
  2. Talking of D-day >> http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-27735086 Good-on-yer-mate.
  3. Has Brent ever been civilised?
  4. Talking of Shoeburyness. A friend of mine back in the 70's was first officer on a gravel dredger which was basically a large floating vacuum cleaner. The normal practice was to drop the suction pipe over the side and see what comes up (mostly for the quality, they know it should be sand and gravel). He found what came up was very good so he started dredging. Half an hour later he had a visit from the military security, he was in the restricted zone off of Shoeburyness. He was fortunate his boss only gave him a dressing down, he could have sucked up a bit more than sand or gravel!
  5. Morning all, bright and sunny this morning in south Essex.
  6. Oldddudders can expect a house guest(s) sometime soon then?
  7. Condolences Neil on the loss of your colleague. When I retired I had a colleague who was due to retire at the same time, he was taken seriously ill only weeks before the retirement date and died the day before he was due to retire. Make the most of life you only get one chance.
  8. My grandparents, who lived in Abbey Wood, had a TV set for the coronation. Problem was they were on a busy trolleybus route and there was a 'snowstorm' every time one passed.
  9. I remember Coronation day, it absolutely poured down, the street party for us kids (actually in someone's front garden) took place under a hastily rigged tarpaulin,.
  10. I understand that Walford Arches still exists in the hands of a MBF member.
  11. There used to be a 00 scale London Trolleybus layout a few years ago using the Faller system with overhead power supply. Regrettably the owner/builder passed away, IIRC it was called Walford.
  12. That MLV must have a good set of batteries.
  13. Pete, the first international cricket match was in 1840 between the Toronto Cricket Club and the St. Georges Cricket Club of New York. The New York side won by 10 wickets.
  14. What did you win? I was hoping for the Network Rail 73.
  15. I probably missed you then, I only stayed for less than an hour. For such a small exhibition though there were some very good layouts.
  16. Morning all, of to Benfleet as well later on, I might bump into Tony_S, I'd forgotten about the exhibition until Tony reminded me.
  17. Went to Tesco's today looking for a new pair of jeans. Virtually every pair on the racks had a button fly, don't they fit zips any more? I must add however that the assistant was very helpful and managed to find a pair with a zip fly in the storeroom. I have now been informed that button flies are 'fashionable', so is pi$$ing yourself whilst struggling to undo a button fly fashionable nowadays?
  18. A few days ago there was a fox relaxing on my brick pavior patio, when he/she got up there was a small pile of sand indicating the presence of an ants nest which as it turned out were red ants. Perhaps the fox was getting some sort of 'massage' from the ants.
  19. An all female tribe captured 3 men. There practice was to cut male captives members off according to their occupation. The first captive was a lumberjack so they cut it off with an ax, the second was a butcher so it was cut off with a cleaver. The third captive was rolling on the ground with laughter, they asked him why and he said "I'm a Dyson salesman.".
  20. Sorry my mistake, redundancy payments drop considerably once you are 64 not 60. That was 6 years ago when I retired and its probably altered by now with the raising of the normal retirement age. Tax is payable on the lump sum over a certain limit, as my lump sum was nowhere near that limit and there must be very few if any ER's who have such an enormous pension pot this should not worry them.
  21. Its numbered in the combi trailer series.
  22. I forgot, redundancy payments decrease dramatically when you become 60, something else to bear in mind. My retirement lump sum was a lot more than £30,000 but I did not pay any tax on it.
