  1. How many times did you fall in?
  2. IIRC in the days of my youth (stop laughing at the back) such hoardings were set back from the edge of the public highway by about 3 feet. One I remember in particular behind a wall had chain link fencing laid horizontally between the wall and the hoarding roughly at pavement level to stop small boys and drunks falling down the ten foot drop, this was inevitably covered with litter.
  3. Is it a good idea to have the pub so near the canal? especially at closing time. Perhaps a life buoy on the towpath would be an idea.
  4. You could always put a public convenience behind the billboard.
  5. In August they will be running their own Met 150 event. They will have the Dreadnought and the Jubilee coach in service.
  6. Don't forget the rubber boots and gloves (if you are going anywhere near that toilet).
  7. They could be making and/or repairing stillages for other manufacturers.
  8. Was there any lorries fitted with 'Hymac' cranes or similar in the 70's? The reason I am asking is that Stubby is asking for suggestions for what his factory could be making and I suggested BR relay cabinets, such items would possibly be carried on vehicles so equipped for unloading on site.
  9. They could be making items for BR such as relay cabinets and other steel fabrications.
  10. To represent swarf I would suggest teasing out small pieces of wire wool. Easy to 'rust' as well by dipping it in water, but don't do as I did and forget about it. I came back a week later to find a rusty brown sludge.
  11. My 1977 Reliant Kitten van is fitted with N/S and O/S mirrors. It is described as a DL model in the log book so that it is not the basic model however.
  12. I'd keep the cars and upgrade them to use on the layout. The ambulance and lorry are HO scale.
  13. Only to be dreaming about painting doors window, fire escapes and wriggly tin roofs.
  14. Yes, beer does tend to make you confuse vertical with horizontal, especially after one to many.
  15. As long as she did not answer 'So have I.' Hat, coat gone >>>
  16. The Minix 1100 can be updated with the wheels and interior from the Cararama mini.
  17. Thanks for that Merf, I've now signed up to the Yahoo group.
  18. Or 'Skol lager, the only liquid that can pass through the human body unaltered'.
  19. The Transit's the first of which would be approaching 10 years old in the mid 70's were favourites with small builders. The new Transit car carrier from Oxford could be adapted by shortening the wheelbase and scratch building the dropside body. A few builders also used the Volkswagen Transporter pick up as made by Oxford.
  20. The rapid inflation came in the mid 70's. It was caused by a massive hike in the price of oil after one of the many wars between Israel and the Arab nations. I think it was in 1976, the year of the long hot summer.
  21. It would be better to put them on the engine cover to stop them from getting cold.
  22. Only if they were fried in beef dripping.
  23. Back in 1970 was Land Rover part of BL? The original RR concept was a multi purpose vehicle for farmers which despite its 100 mph top speed did not handle very well. The first people to find a use for the RR were the police for Motorway patrol. It was only after BL took over Rover that it was effectively marketed. Until then Rover was allways strapped for cash, which was one of the reasons for the development of the Range Rover which was a fairly simple body with the interior from a Rover saloon on a Land Rover chassis with the ex Buick engine that Rover's had recently acquired.
  24. The 'Quiet contemplation at Crewe' would make for a great caption competition.
