  1. Evening all, Jock, thanks for your tip about 'Allopurinol', I had to stop taking Voltarol when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure as it cancelled out the effect of Ramopril. Damp weather always affects my arthritis, I can tell almost to the minute when it is going to rain. The best exercise if you have arthritis is swimming.
  2. Yet Realtrack has entered the market and is going from strength to strength. A parallel can be drawn between Realtrack and Oxford in that both companies are very customer focused and more in touch with their customers. More so than Hornby or Bachmann perhaps?
  3. We in our club are fortunate that there is also a model railway club in our twin town in France. I have visited on three occasions with our club when they have held an exhibition. The exhibition is not organised by their model railway club but by the local municipality and it includes such things as craft fairs and vintage vehicle displays, the model railway club is one of many local organisations invited to participate. As was said above, the catering was superb and everything stops for about two hours for lunch. The town (Meux) is very close to Eurodisney and the show is on in early November.
  4. Could well be, the countdown finishes on the Saturday before Remembrance Sunday. Several railway companies produced/named/renamed locomotives in memory of the fallen. Perhaps the prototype is one of these locomotives.
  5. Good moaning, bright and sunny start this morning so I'll take a walk into town instead of the car to Tesco's. On the subject of Halloween, I am reconsidering my 7.30 cut off time for opening the door, and getting some sugar free huggy bears for those who call after that time. "Go on son, take a handful"
  6. I do get a few treats in for Halloween, but I do not answer the door after about 7.30 by which time most of the youngest will be going to bed. Not had any problems around here with eggs or flour for a long time, last time there was a problem, about 10 years ago the scroats were stopped by the police, one of them still had some eggs in his pocket, somehow they got broken.
  7. My favourite tipple, regrettably current medication means any alcohol is a no no. I still have some in stock and as it is a 'live' beer (ferments in the bottle) its possibly more than 8% now.
  8. Talking of BBQ charcoal, last night on Countryfile mention was made of charcoal from rhododendrons that were being cleared. I know that wood from fruit trees gives off a scent when burned, does the same apply to charcoal?
  9. I watched the O gauge tinplate on antiques roadshow this evening. 90 years old and never been out of the wrapping.
  10. Morning all, off to the 'do' at Mangapps shortly. Weather is a bit overcast but dry, wooly jumper donned just in case.
  11. The Romans are known to have had Nubian soldiers stationed on Hadrian's Wall. Very few Roman Soldiers came from Rome itself or for that matter even Italy.
  12. Thanks for that, I noticed that there is at least three minor variations between different vehicles, certainly a case for getting plenty of prototype photographs.
  13. Thats an intriguing engineers(?) wagon in the background on what looks like a container flat, any idea of what it is?
  14. Went to the swap meet at Brentwood today, found a couple of bargains. The Oxford modern heavy trucks, the low loader with 8 wheel tractor unit and the container truck, £7:50 each unboxed with minor damage but the bits broken off are there and easy to repair, they're going into the 'chop box' with the other bits for conversion to something else. Whilst I was out the post arrived, including some vouchers from Tescos, these were all money off/extra points for books, magazines and CD's, a handy one is 100 extra points when more than £5 is spent on magazines, and it can be used up to 5 times before Christmas.
  15. Morning all, woke up at 5:30 this morning, decided it was too early and went back to sleep, Woke up again at 8:40! So breakfast in a rush as I'm going to the swap meet at Brentwood. Open day at Mangaps tomorrow but as it doesn't open till 11:30 + an extra hour I should be OK.
  16. Many years ago I got to talking to some Essex police officers from the police diving team. They had a large twin wheel Sherpa (or was it Convoy?) as even the larger transits could not carry them and all their equipment. It was the fastest van in the force being fitted with a 3.6 litre V8 petrol engine but they pointed out that the handling was not so good.
  17. There is two railways in Soller, the tramway and the Soller Railway which runs the 27.3 km. from Soller to Palma de Mallorca.
  18. I wonder if there are enough livery variations to make a RTR model viable?
  19. You don't wear an enormous backpack at exhibitions as well do you?
  20. On the original there is what looks like the beginnings of a dome and outside steam pipes.
