  1. One unmarked and in plain colours would be good.
  2. I took early retirement at the age of 59 and eight months and I wish I had done it earlier. What made up my mind was when my line manager walked out after an almighty row with one of the senior managers (who was in the wrong). Another tip, consider equity release if you require more funds, it depends on your personal circumstances but as I have no dependents I found it ideal when I needed funds urgently (both gas and water leaks needed urgent attention).
  3. As a point of interest, those old shipping containers filled with sand and stone used as temporary breakwaters. What logistics were involved with getting them to Dawlish? How did they arrive, did they arrive full or were they filled on site?
  4. I had an aunt who lived in North Shore, Blackpool. Her next door neighbour was an actress from Coronation Street, I can't remember her name but she played the one of the three old biddys with the beret (Martha Longhurst?). In the next street was the actor who played Sid the cafe owner in 'Last of the summer wine'. My cousin was a professional musician and played in the various theatres in Blackpool and had many tales of the antics of some of the slebs that appeared there.
  5. My BiL drove the prototypes, he was a test driver at Fords Boreham facility.
  6. There is plenty of sand not far away, the Cornish 'Alps', waste sand from the clay workings. And bringing it in by rail would be the logical way to go.
  7. Someone will no doubt correct me if I am wrong but I think that very little of the Brunelian or even Victorian embankment/wall still exists, most of it dates no further back than the 1930's or later? Edit for punctuation.
  8. That reminds me of the joke about a similar item but in the ladies toilet and with a slightly different function. Definitely not for male use and not to be repeated here.
  9. It is the same company.
  10. If you count in all the islands around Essex it does have a longer coastline than Cornwall. Essex has more islands than any other English or Welsh county.
  11. Yes Essex isn't flat, don't forget Brentwood Bank and the climb to West Horndon.
  12. That must mean that my feet will remain dry as well if the ice caps melt. I live very nearly opposite Basildon hospital which is the second highest point in East Anglia, the highest point (Langdon Hills) is just down the road.
  13. They're as rare as hens teeth nowadays, I would expect it to go for at least £500. I can remember when they were new! They were intended as the Rootes group answer to the Ford Crapi but the only area where they were faster was in rusting.
  14. They'd only have you rotating around their little fingers.
  15. On my layout I have a bridge spanning 5 tracks made from the Wills vari-girder. I have not used the splice plates as I have used a piece of 12 mm ply for the bridge deck and have placed the top of the girders flush with the top of the deck and topped it with the Wills brick walling (the walling the same as that over the Wills brick arches) the effect is of the bridge structure being hidden by the girder plates.
  16. I take it that Matthews an eating machine teenage male.
  17. Not to mention the drawing and quartering afterwards.
  18. I thought they were referring to Leigh-on-sea near Southend.
  19. Not quite what they seem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIMgpUJHuBQ
  20. If its post nationalisation anything but Welsh steam coal would be correct.
