  1. I had a browse through to see if he had any other locomotives on offer, some were very steamy.
  2. That traffic jam, including rail replacement buses, could be put on a bridge.
  3. As long as their not identical.
  4. Morning all from a sunny but cool Estuary-Land. Pete, looks as if you will have to invest in some curtains now but they should be cheaper than a new van. Commiserations and congratulations wherever necessary.
  5. 'Railway Bylines' covered the J15 quite comprehensively a few years ago. IIRC some had the higher cab roofs before nationalisation whilst others lasted well into nationalisation with the low cab roofs. Many GER locomotives had wooden cab roofs as well that were in most cases replaced by steel roofs.
  6. Its quite some time since I've had to break up anything such as walls etc. Last time was a wall made of rather hard breeze blocks. Fortunately there was plenty of room to swing the sledge hammer and during the two hours that it took I'd barely broken into a sweat.
  7. Morning all from a misty and murky Estuary-Land (as Tony has already told you). Congrats and commiserations where necessary and glad to see Debs back even if only briefly.
  8. All that salt water won't do the cars a lot of good either.
  9. If running the model without a 'crew' it would stick out like a sore thumb, due to the 'open' nature of the cab. IIRC some of the class were indeed fitted with a tender cab for operation on some branches where tender first operation was common (Mildenhall?).
  10. My bus pass came up for renewal about 15 months ago, I didn't have to do anything, it just arrived in the post.
  11. I've just noticed that the blank 'buttons' have now disappeared. Its apparent that some were missing the disagree button and were using the 'blank' buttons as such, I have used them myself but only in lieu of a 'groan' button.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. IIRC I just went down to the local council offices with some passport photos to get my 'Grumpy pass'. I'm using it more now than I ever did when I first had it getting old and lazy I guess.
  13. An engineering prototype of the Komatsu excavator model was shown at Nuremberg. The Atlas version is not being made by Oxford this is an entirely new model. Hopefully it will become available within the next 12 months.
  14. Whats the difference between a Russian detective and a teenage schoolboy. One's a Rostov 'tec, and one's....................
  15. There is also the prospect of an F5.
  16. Many modern fishing weights are ceramic which should not cause any problems.
  17. Oxford models are pretty good but some of the Trackside range are quite dire IMHO. The best Trackside models are the larger lorries and some of the vans, the cars should be avoided like the plague, they are overscale and misshapen. The best models are the Pocketbond Classix who make some prototypes not made by other manufacturers.
  18. I must be turning into a cat then, I want to spend all day sleeping.
  19. Not according to the private company it isn't, when they've deducted their dividends.
  20. We had road pricing of sorts on the Dartford tunnel/QE2 bridge on the understanding that once the construction was paid for (this was back in the 60's/70's the crossing would be free. And then along came privatisation, the running of the crossing was handed over to a private company and it still isn't paid for despite that private company making massive profits.
  21. Ian, is it still illegal in France to issue a dodgy cheque?
  22. Morning all from a still bright (just) Estuary-Land. The news on the radio said this morning that Swiss research has discovered that dogs can 'read' human faces, happy, sad, angry etc. I thought that was interesting but bearing in mind the date I'll wait for more confirmation.
  23. A similar event happened in Tesco's (Pitsea) car park a few months ago.
  24. A little bird told me that not long after I retired they wanted someone to cover for a maternity leave but no one wanted to dare ask me. Ironically I would have seriously considered it but then turned it down and in the end they settled for an agency temp.
