  1. The Glass's guide is a bit ambiguous, I discovered that when I looked up some registrations for which I knew the correct registration dates. The guide refers to intermediate year when it means first year.
  2. It depends on where you insert it when you catch the blighters.
  3. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Can't stay for long as exhibition duty calls.
  4. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Setting up of the exhibition went reasonably well, the new hall turns out to be a lot cooler than the existing hall we have used, and it appears to have far more electric sockets, something that appears to be in short supply in the existing hall. Early start in the morning so goodnight all.
  5. My 1963 Glass's guide gives GFY 50-888 issued Feb-Dec 1949 and 889 to 999 issued Jan-Feb 1950. 1-49 were never issued.
  6. Morning all from Estuary-Land. The calm before the storm, will be a busy weekend setting up the show starting at 5 PM today, a sort of POETS day in reverse. I am tasked with organising the diorama competition, not too onerous a task as I only have 3 or 4 entries. Voting is done by the exhibitors excluding club members so I have to make sure that everybody who is entitled to vote has the opportunity to do so.
  7. Do they still call you Enignethgil?
  8. Evening all from Estuary-Land, just had a short downpour about an hour ago, I hope Tony managed to get his washing in. Still hot and sticky though. Sad to hear of the death of Val Doonican, not a fan but I still liked his music.
  9. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Warming up quite a bit now, I woke up before 7 this morning and had a quick bath before it gets too hot. I am fortunate that I have discovered that by opening a fanlight downstairs on the 'cool' side (north facing) of the house and an upstairs fanlight on the 'hot' side creates a cooling breeze through the house. At least the hay fever is not so bad, I've no idea what sort of pollen sets mine off but it doesn't appear to be grass. Jock, here's the link for our show, I think its working http://www.basildon-mrc.org.uk/Show.asp
  10. Evening all from a hot and sticky Estuary-Land. Weather forecast is for thundery showers later but no sign of any at the moment. Making final arrangements for our exhibition this weekend, no other events on at the school so parking should not be a problem. We also now have the assembly hall, increasing the size of the exhibition by about 50%.
  11. As advertised it was 'Nicola Melissa' fleet number RV232, it has now been changed to 'Lily Jean' fleet number RV233. Apparently it had been changed after the circulars had been printed.
  12. Afternoon all. Just done my good deed for the day, coming home after doing a bit of shopping I spotted a young man climbing on top of a neighbours porch, he then reached through an open fanlight, opened the main window and clambered inside. Naturally I dialled 999 and within a few minutes a police patrol arrived. No sign of anyone being arrested so I assume everything was in order, I didn't recognise the guy and I know the couple whose house it is.
  13. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Commiserations and congratulations where necessary. Not a lot happening at the moment at least one side of the house remains cool however hot it gets. Kettles on so be back later.
  14. Didn't they produce it as a kit over about three editions?
  15. Don't forget the temperatures quoted are shade temperatures. The temperature at Wimbledon was well over 40.C in the open today. Its predicted that tomorrows temperatures will be even higher but likely to kick off some thunderstorms.
  16. Very sad news indeed Bob. A former colleague lost his life in the 7/7 bombings, he was standing next to the bomber on the Aldgate train. My sister lost a colleague/friend in the 9/11 bombing, he was the company security officer and he had evacuated all the other staff and only went back in to make sure everybody was out of the company offices, he was the only casualty.
  17. Morning all from an already hot and sunny Estuary-Land. I decided to sort out some items for the club sales stall this weekend before it got too hot. Among the items is a pair of 2'X4' baseboards that were made for me by a friend who was a professional carpenter but I have never used. They have a wooden frame with plywood tops and joined together to make one 8'X2' board using brass dowels and 5mm bolts. Is £25 too much or too little an asking price? I have no idea of what it is worth.
  18. Apparently as Stobarts have more than one low loader the new one will carry a different registration number and name to the existing model.
  19. Had to pop into town today to pick up a parcel from the sorting office. It turned out to be a second model excavator from the new Atlas Stobart machinery range. I had ordered one that had arrived last week and several other people have reported extra ones arriving, one guy said he had received five! Time for bed now, goodnight all.
  20. I sent off the postcard that was in several of the model railway magazines for June. That would be about one month ago and it did say delivery would take 28 days. I received e-mail notification about a week before it was delivered. Did you order on line or by post? from what I gather ordering by post is quicker but it might be that the postcards were not issued until stocks were ready.
  21. No one seems to know, the information is ambiguous at best. The illustrations show it with the Bachmann couplings.
  22. Mine arrived on Thursday, and another on Saturday but I was out and had to collect it from the sorting office this morning, I only ordered one! The second one had similar box damage to Big Jims, the first had a very clean cut in the end flap of the box but in both cases the contents are intact. I notice that the helicopter in the original list doesn't appear on the paperwork with the crane, I didn't want it anyway. Some of the other items such as the low loader and the stacker IIRC were also in the Stobart lorry series.
  23. Yes, as the TR10. Edit, didn't spot the '8' on the bonnet. The easiest way to tell the difference is has it got a boot lid?
  24. Nice pic of the Standard 10. A bit of car trivia, the Triumph Herald was going to be called the Standard Herald when it was being developed but in the interim it was decided that the name 'Standard' was going to be dropped and replaced by the Triumph name. Some have claimed that this was why Standard had acquired the Triumph company that existed in name only, it was in receivership and its only asset, the factory had been lost in the Blitz. Standard Heralds were still produced however, in India. The Indian version was also available as a four door, and production carried on after it had ceased in the UK.
  25. Well at least the vendor was honest, the start price of £5.99 looks very reasonable.
