  1. Someone must like their chilli.
  2. They must have dealt with the problem then. Apparently one caught fire when it was on the river.
  3. I worked behind a Post Office counter 50 years ago and we were provided with sealing wax for registered mail.
  4. The restrictions on use of VHI's does not surprise me at all. Legally if a vehicle qualified for zero road tax it could only be used privately but many owners of light vans and Land Rovers and similar vehicles used them as part of their business, in which case the full tax should have been paid. Its because of this abuse that restrictions have been applied.
  5. Popped down to town today and went into my bank to use the ATM. I asked for £20 and it came in the form of four of the new plastic fivers, and they are just that, plastic. Apparently some people are trying to sell them on e-bay.
  6. There was a few DUKW's operating on the Thames but I believe that they have now been withdrawn due to safety concerns.
  7. A late colleague of mine was awarded the Military Medal for erecting a Bailey Bridge under fire. This was during the push to rescue the paratroopers trapped at Arnhem.
  8. I went to my bank to use the ATM machine and it delivered four of the new plastic fivers. Now do I put them on e-bay or hang on to the couple of old ones and sell them when the time comes?
  9. The kit in question was of an American military hovercraft that looked very much like an SRN. It probably was an American copy built under licence and given a completely different designation. The kit itself IIRC was from a Japanese company and was only available in the UK from a few specialist traders. EDIT There is also this model kit on e-bay # 331937447768
  10. This was put forward long before Brexit, by the British government. There was no prompting by the EU though it was practice in some European countries. The delay is due to our own bureaucrats/lawyers having not yet turned something concise and easily understandable into complicated gibberish.
  11. On major contracts many of these machines are purchased just for that contract. On major contracts such as crosslink there can be two or more replacements of such machinery. Once finished with there is a ready second hand market in developing countries for all types of plant.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning so a nip down to town beckons. Yesterday was the 'official' Autumn Equinox but it is today when the day and night are both 12 hours and further north it is tomorrow. The Autumn Equinox is when the sun passes directly over the equator, that occured just before 2 p.m. yesterday. The 'delay' in the equal day/night is down to the tilt of the Earth and is more pronounced the further from the equator you are. Another useful useless fact I have picked up on my travels. Bye for now, be back later.
  13. Airfix made a kit of the prototype (N1?) in 1/72 scale and I do recall there being a kit for a US military hovercraft which looked a lot like an SRN5.
  14. Or they've used Tesco's 'Everyday Value' toilet paper.
  15. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Congratulations to Mrs. Rick on landing the job and at least you can get better broadband in most of the UK. I posted a pic of another 'novel' loo seat on my Facebook page, a bit more useful than a slow shutting lid IMHO. I have just noticed that my number of posts is 4900, it does not of course include ER's and other Wheeltappers posts. Congratulations and commiserations, be back later.
  16. There is a group on Facebook for suggestions for Oxford to make.
  17. Some large operators had special parcels tramcars, Dublin, Manchester and the Black Country tramways for example.
  18. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Quite bright and sunny here this morning though when I woke up this morning the central heating was running full tilt. I've finished reading the book on the West Valley R.R. very much a potted history of the line and a bit short on some details but typical of a 1950's publication. It really brings home how such books have changed in half a century, I should think that for modern authors of transport and other similar genres Google really is your friend. Thats all for now folks, congratulations and commiserations where neccessary, be back later.
  19. Can't you run Worth Valley 72 on your layout. Remember rule 1 applies.
  20. I was thinking about converting the Hornby 143 into an articulated unit running on three bogies. Alternatively you could make a longer single unit mounted on bogies to make a modern day bubble car.
  21. Stationmaster, I wonder if that schoolgirl didn't deliberately give the wrong address. If she did she's got some explaining to do to her parents.
  22. I can't remember which make and model it was but the car had the wiper arm fixtures and the washer nozzles so placed that by swapping them over the wipers could be placed correctly for LHD or RHD.
